Are bridal showers appropriate for kids?
My DD is 7 and is the flower girl in my sisters wedding, she is invited to the bridal shower since she is in the bridal party and there will be one other 12 year old girl there who is a bridesmaid. However my mom seems to think that a bridal shower is an adults only party and that many times there are 'adult' gifts that are opened and not appropriate for children to see! LOL.. I have not been to bridal shower in forever....what do you think? are there typically some kids there? do they get raunchy with gifts? As far as behavior she is very mature and would want to come and I am confident would behave perfectly.

Yes they are appropriate. The only risque gives I have ever seen are some nice lingerie. I don't think the kids would even pay attention.
Your daugher since she is a FG would probably even help the bride with the gifts.

Because bachelorette parties have become more the norm today, I think bridal showers have become more appropriate without naughty gifts.
I feel like years ago no one did such elaborate bach parties and that is why there would be "dirty" gifts at the bridal shower.
I've been to so many showers in the past few years and not a single one had "adult" gifts. Those were saved for the bach. party.
The 2 girls being there will be fine!
ETA: If she was invited, then that means the bride-to-be wants her there and she should go! I've usually only seen kids that are part of the BP at showers.

i had my bridal shower last year and we only had my niece there (she was the flower girl and age 7). there were come "inappropriate" gifts (lingerie, condoms) but she was too young to even ask questions.
if she was invited i would guess they are keeping it clean...the only thing you may end up with is seeing the bride open up lingerie but imo brining her should be ok

I think it's fine -- my FG were 6 and 7 and came to my shower. I did get a few nice pieces of lingerie and they were sitting right in front of me helping me open, and screeched "EEWWWW UNDERWEAR!" but it was adorable. Everyone laughed and nothing was inappropriate. My shower was at my aunt's house and even though there was alcohol there it was just wine and a spiked champagne punch. I would definitely bring her

I received 2 pieces of lingerie and a bottle of liquor called "Hot Sex".  That's as risque as it got. We had kids there, my 2 FGs, another cousin, and my cousin's newborn. All the kids had a great time. They even got involved in the TP bride game.
ETA: Since I'm so close with my FGs, they sat and helped me open gifts, too.

It's only appropriate if the bride is ok with it. If she's invited (and in the bridal party!), I think it's fine.

I had... 5 girls at my bridal shower under the age of 13. It was fine. A few of them asked what lingerie was when it was opened. Her mom wasn't sure what to say so I said that they were grown up PJ's. That answer satisfied her. lol
I think it really depends individually on each child though.

But I doubt the bride will be getting any sex toys at the shower so in terms of risque things being open- that shouldn't be an issue.

Yes i think its appropriate, especially since the bride invited your DD, she must want her there.
Like everyone else mentioned, there aren't many risque gifts being opened anymore, and chances are your DD won't realize the bride is opening up lingerie, etc
For my shower, I had my FG and ring boy there (they are my niece and nephew, and literally everyone who could watch them were at the shower), also a friend brought her twin 6 month old  . I always think it's cute when little kids are at showers, plus in my culture (Greek) everyone thinks surrounding the bride with kids will make her more fertile 
I say bring your girl she will have fun!

I know my group of friends and family save the naughty gifts for the bachelorette party.

Thank you all for the feedback, Im pretty sure I will be bringing her as she does want to come and my sister wants her there. I think my mom must have some crazy memories of bridal showers she went to in the past, but that is probably due to the fact that the bachelorette parties weren't common either!

My 6yo niece was at my bridal shower.
She was so excited about the wedding and being a part of it. During the shower, she pulled up a chair next to me and started to help open up gifts, and later on helped me cut the cake.
It was absolutely the cutest thing.

All four of my little girl cousins (who were ages 4-8 at the time) came to my shower and had a great time. There weren't any risque gifts. The girls were actually really helpful because they all wanted to help clean up the wrapping paper and give the ribbons and bows to my friend who was making the ribbon hat.

I wouldn't think it was appropriate. I held a shower for my sister and while we weren't really doing anything risque the kids were definitely making noise and playing which kind of takes the focus away from the bride. Plus it will split your attention. It's why I didn't invite kids to my wedding, I wanted the parents to be able to have fun and enjoy themselves. JMHO

What does your mom think your sister is going to receive at her shower that your daughter can't see?

They were preoccupied to notice those things anyway!

I can't imagine a seven year old even grasping what a dildo is or what it does nor would I think she'd even understand or grasp the jokes that would follow.
Coupled with the fact that your sister doesn't seem to think things will go that way, I think you're fine.

I've never been to a shower where there were sex toys as gifts. Im sure it will be fine, I've been to plenty of showers where there were kids
