I asked an acquaintance at johnnys school today when she was due..
Let me preface this by saying I swore i would NEVER have that happen to me...
I asked a fellow mom at my sons pre-k when she was due. She told me she was not pregnant...UGH.
However...I would never ever ever have asked had i not been very certain. She is tiny. Teeny tiny. Throughout the last 4 months or so, her belly has been growing. Turning into a big, round VERY pregnant looking belly. I would say it looked as if she were 7.5 months along.
I was mortified. Seriously. I apologized, my face got really red...she was gracious and just said "oh no, not pregnant". The bizzare thing is that after it happened, my close friend told me she did the same exact thing last week..asked her when she was due. It looks like such an obviously pregnant stomach. It could be something else I guess, (fibroid maybe?) but the strangest part? She was wearing maternity jeans. It's not my business what is going on, she may just not want to talk about anything, I just seriously feel awful. My friend is 100% certain she is, but for some reason just doesn't want to talk about it. I will never make that mistake again!!!

I have a friend who knows a girl whose sister had a missed mc at 23 weeks, she had to walk around obviously pregnant for over 2 weeks before they did what they needed to do (not really sure if it was a D&C or they waited for natural or what, I felt too awkward to ask)
So maybe that's what's going on with this girl, or as you said it could be some kind of medical issue...

That is a really odd scenario. I got accused of being pregnant months after DD was born, my stomach just didn't go back down quickly at all. She's a year now and while the rest of me is pretty thin, I still have 10-15lbs to lose and I still think I look pregnant (although no one has asked me if I am in long time). I have always been one to carry any extra weight in my belly and being prego just made it even worse. Maybe she has a similar situation going on and her recent choice of outfits is just making it more obvious?
Not sure about the maternity jeans though, maybe it was laundry day or she just finds them more comfortable? It DOES sound like she is pregnant from what you're saying but I don't know why someone that far along would lie about it.

Don't feel bad!! You would think the maternity jeans would be a giveaway. She could be still in her first tri, and waiting to tell people.
Also, maybe they are waiting some kind of test results before they tell others. I have two friends who recently waited until their 18 week ultrasounds to tell other than immediate family, due to some anomalies that were suspected in earlier tests.

I know...and I feel terrible. If that is what happened, how awful.
the only thing though is that she has been at school every day with her other 2 kids...it was the first time i've seen her in maternity jeans.
She bent down to pick up her 2 year old...when she stood up, her shirt kind of went up and you could see the band of the jeans...so I was like "oh wow, how cute, i bet she is due in may.." and figured i'd make small talk.
I am just feeling bad. Especially since i was the second person to ask. I hope she is OK,. whatever the situation may be.

Very true.
When i drove back home after talking to her, I was thinking that maybe there was something wrong with the pregnancy, and in that case how awful....She is a very very quiet woman, very much to herself for these last few months. I am always trying to be friendly and talk to her, but she is just quiet. Maybe there is just something bad happening. I felt like crying. This is definitely, 100% a late term belly. I don't think a fibroid or something would quite look like that, but who knows.
And maybe she just doesn't want to discuss it with anyone and waits till the end. I've never met anyone else like that, but its her right to do so. I just will prob feel bad about it all day...

Oh, my belly took a while too....but this was something where she had a FLAT belly at the beginning of the school year...at christmas a little pot belly...then now, big big pregnant looking belly. Not your typical post baby belly. That is the only reason i even asked her.

Maybe she had a MC, maybe its a fibroid, maybe she is early on and doesnt want to tell yet? I am sure you meant no harm.

Maybe she's being a surrogate for someone and doesn't want to have to answer questions?
I know how you feel though. I did this to someone at work and am absolutely mortified every time I think of it.

I agree the maternity jeans would lead me to think it was safe to say something - and my theory is don't say anything until you see a head popping out.
It may be a late term loss (I know someone else who had this too), a baby with trisomy or something else.
I hope she's ok & it's something good like a surrogate.

A friend of mine  looked 4-5 months pregnant while undergoing fertility treatments because of all the bloating associated with the drugs. I don't know if she wore maternity panta but she was/is a tiny girl and it showed! Could that be it?

I wore pregnancy jeans until 8m pp. They were just comfortable! I don't think I looked pregnant though, just fat. Almost a year later, I finally look normal again.

That is me too. I have fibroids that are huge, and I lost almost all muscle tone from being pg. The only thing that got big on me was my stomach/belly...and sadly it sort of lost it's tone for sure after being pg. Then I gained some weight and gained some more and it looked like I was pg for sure. Now that I am losing the weight it's getting better but the tone is def gone. I still would LOVE to wear maternity jeans.

This was me!
My bra size shot up and they were huge. I also gained water weight and almost had OHSS, so my belly was huge. An old lady asked me if I wanted her seat on the subway, I wanted to die!

No, not at all. She was very matter of fact, looked a bit flustered and just said "oh no, i'm not pregnant" and that was that. Same reaction apparently when my friend asked her too..
I do hope she's ok , whatever it is..it's not a post partem belly (her youngest is 2 and she had a flat belly months ago)...but its SOMETHING. Just a very bizarre situation.

It might be..I dont know. I do know she has three kids already, all fairly close in age. I really don't know. I do know that i was thrown for a loop and will never, ever ask someone again until they bring it up first!!
