Baby clothes..what size to get?
I didnt get a lot of baby clothes at my shower (I was really surprised by this) in any case, I have no idea what size to get. Do I get newborn or size 0-3? Its hard to go shopping since I have no idea how big this baby is going to be. What did you ladies do?

Re: Baby clothes..what size to get?
DS was 7lbs 11oz when he was born. He was in Newborn clothes for about 4-5 weeks. Some 0-3 clothes run small, so they might fit alot sooner then others. For newborn, just get alot of zip up one piece pjs and onseies. Carters fit the best and are nice and soft. You won't be out of the house much in the first few weeks, so don't buy too many outfits. I started buying more cute outfits in 0-3 size. That is when I started buying things from Gap, Old Navy. I think DS was in 0-3 size for a good 4-5 weeks as well. Not a fan of Gerber clothes. They tend to shrink and the material doesn't wash well. It also runs really small, so 0-3 might be okay in that brand. If you buy from Gap, it runs big. You can get away with not buying Newborn clothes, but just prepared that 0-3 size may be swimming on your DC.

Re: Baby clothes..what size to get?
DD was 7 lbs 1 oz at birth, and wore newborn for a while. She didn't wear much though ... I agree with pp about carters basics. Buy newborn side snap tops and onesies, as well as footed pajamas. I also liked the 2 pack of pants with coordinating onesies. All carters. And a miracle blanket for swaddling. All socks were absolutely huge, but once she was a couple of months, Old navy socks were the absolute best.

Re: Baby clothes..what size to get?
My DD was 9lbs 10oz at birth Needless to say we never used a single piece of newborn sized clothing. We went straight to 0-3 months and if I am remembering correctly she was in them for about a month or two.
I would get a few of 0-3 months --- onesies for under clothes, a few sidesnap onesies (I feel like they are really helpful in the beginning) and a few sleep and play outfits. If you get 2-piece outfits, keep it simple and comfy!
Then get a few onesies and sleep and play outfits that are 3-6 months. You will definately use them.
Other then that I'd wait until the baby is born. You'll start picking things up here and there and people will also buy cute outfits for the baby once they are born!

Re: Baby clothes..what size to get?
I would not buy newborn at all. My DS was born 6-9 and came home 6-1 and only wore newborn for a week or two. The 0-3 were a bit big but not so much that he couldn't wear them. He is 11 weeks and completely out of any 0-3 and he is still only under 11 lbs

Re: Baby clothes..what size to get?
I would honestly buy a few newborn. DD was 7lbs 6oz and her 0-3 coming home outfit was swimming on her. I ended up having to put a newborn Carter's fleece on her. I had my mom pick up a handful of the Carter's newborn onesies and that is what she used for a good two-three weeks. This time around I made sure I bought a handful of newborn things.

Re: Baby clothes..what size to get?
honestly i would go with 0-3 if anything, I only bought 4 newborn sleep and plays and had 4 decent ones from DD #1 and that was enough for me so far, I already have DD #2 in 0-3 now. The onesies I should of bought more 0-3 vs. newborn.
I had issues with the gerber brand shrinking.

Re: Baby clothes..what size to get?
My dd was 7.0lbs even and wore newborn for the first 8 weeks until she was 10lbs. I had mostly 0-3 months clothes and they were huge on her and looked ridiiclous. My mom and I went shopping while dh watched dd when she was 5 days old and got her more newborn stuff. This time I know better and I have been buying newborn clothing.

Re: Baby clothes..what size to get?
Get a few newborn, but mostly 0-3. Keep receipts, just in case!

Re: Baby clothes..what size to get?
DS was 8 lbs 1 oz at birth. He was on the shorter side and could wear newborn clothes for 5 weeks. I'd at least buy a few newborn things and maybe wash 1 or 2 outfits. Then, keep the tags on the rest and save the receipts in case DC is on the larger side.

Re: Baby clothes..what size to get?
Thanks everyone! I think I'll just buy a few newborn sizes like a lot of you suggested and just keep the tags on them just in case. Thanks for the help!
