kissing your LO on the lips
i just read an article on babycenter discussing this topic and it made me curious to know how many of you kiss your children on the lips? also, do you kiss other children in your extended family on the lips? and do you kiss your adult family members on the lips?
it has always bothered me to see adult children kissing their parents or siblings on the lips. i would never do it and i'm not judging anyone, but i just have never understood why people do it. and now (possibly because of how i feel about adults doing it??) i am having a hard time kissing DS on the lips. he's 6 weeks old and many parents kiss their babies on the lips. i don't think THAT is weird, but i can't seem to bring myself to do it even though i kind of want to. i see DH kiss DS on the lips and it doesn't bother me.
but what DID bother me is seeing my SIL kiss my DS on the lips. it didn't just slightly bothered me either; i'm fairly upset by it but i don't know if it'd be overreacting to say something to her about it. i feel that if i don't kiss him on the lips, i really don't want any other adults in my extended family doing it. but maybe i'm just being weird.
i'm curious to see what you ladies do/think/have to say about lip kisses?

no quams about it!! Its the best feeling when my DS gives me a kiss on the lips. Just wait!!! When its your own child its totally different!!
I would also kiss my nieces & nephews on the lips when the time comes BUT not my kids friends.

Re: kissing your LO on the lips
Right now my kids are 17 months and we (DH and I )kiss them on the lips. When you ask them for a kiss they automatically go for ours. Im not really thrilled with other people kissing them with their lips but it's not a huge deal for me either.
I know Im not going to be kissing them on their lips forever but I couldn't say at this point when exactly I'll stop. But I definitely won't be the parent that kisses their adult children on the lips.

I didn't Start kissing DS on the lips until he learned to kiss. When you ask for a kiss, it's right on the lips. That's just what he has always done, and I love it. Its so different with your own child. I wouldn't kiss other peoples kids on the lips and I would prefer others don't Kiss my child on the lips.

I kiss DD all the time on the lips and she licks me back
I used to kiss my nieces on the lips also but now they are bigger I can barely get a reluctant hug out of them. I will take it while I can get it.

I'm not a fan of kissing on the lips for children and my mom wasn't that kind either. For me, kissing on the lips is an intimate/sexual thing between myself and my husband. I do not have any desire to do it with my child.

Re: kissing your LO on the lips
I completely get what you're saying. I felt uncomfortable kissing DD on the lips at first, but now she's the one who initiates it. I think she sees me kissing DH on the lips and she imitates that. It's a perfectly natural thing and I don't want her to have any hang-ups about it in the future so I just go with it. I have to say, that it absolutely melts my heart when DD leans in to plant a kiss on me.

Re: kissing your LO on the lips
I kiss ds on the lips, as does dh. I grew up in a family where uncles kissed their father on the lips, its very normal for MY family. That said, i dont want anyone else but dh and myself to kiss ds on the lips. All of our family kissed him on the cheek. I make sure when we arrive or leave somewhere I say give so and so a kiss on the cheek. So he doesnt go in for the lips.

Re: kissing your LO on the lips
I used to kiss her on lips once she first learned to kiss back but then it got ‘weird’. She saw Aladdin too many times and gave me a long nearly passionate kiss. Freaked me out a bit So we made a game of don’t kiss my nose. So she tries to kiss my nose. She got a kiss from me just this weekend because she was watching something about sign language (for babies) and they repeatedly showed kissing on the lips.
Its ok if its an innocent peck but I’m not big into every 5 secs kissing your kids lips and honestly I rather she didn’t.
Meh, not my style.

Re: kissing your LO on the lips
I kiss both my kids on their lips.....I have no weird feeling about it. Dh on the other hand kisses our boys on their cheeks.
I don't mind my parents or ils kissing our DS on the lips but others always give their cheeks.
I only kissed my nephews on their lips as babies, now they are older & always give cheeks.

Same thing with DS. He initiatited it and he only does it with me. I it and cherish this moment, because I know this too shall pass way too quickly.

We don't kiss DD on her lips and I don't want her to learn that it's ok to kiss other people on the lips either. My MIL kissed her on the lips and I didn't like it at all! I swore to myself that I will say something to her if I see her do it again.

Re: kissing your LO on the lips
DH and I always smoochie Emerson on the lips BUUUUUUT it completely grosses me out if anyone else does it so I don't allow it. I just feel like we're her parents, it's okay for us to smooch her but I don't like the idea of other people's germs and spit all over her face. Call it a double standard but that's just how it is.

DH and I have only ever kissed DS on the lips, I find absolutely nothing wrong with it... the extended family has fallen into their own pattern with him (my mom and MIL kiss him on the lips, my Step dad and FIL and all our brothers only let him kiss them on the cheek)... If there's an issue with it, I usually tell DS (he's 2 now) to give so-n-so a kiss on the cheek... I've been telling him that since he's about 1yr. He does it. If anyone kisses/kissed him on the lips as an infant, I don't/didn't say anything, I just made the adjustment when he was older.

Re: kissing your LO on the lips
I didn't think I would but I do kiss DD on the lips. I come from a strictly kiss on the cheek family (except for romantic partners) so I was surprised when it just seemed normal to kiss DD on the lips. I don't want ANYONE besides me or DH doing it though. I debate on having DH and I even stop so she doesn't get into a habit and reflexively do it to other people though. I haven't seen any family members do and if I did I would definitely be saying something. If it was my side I'd immediately speak up (although I would do it privately so not to embarrass them) and if it's DH's side I'd have him handle it. To me it's VERY weird and inappropriate for anyone other than a mom or dad to kiss a child on the mouth.

Re: kissing your LO on the lips
I kiss ds on the lips (well really he kisses me on the lips). In my family this is normal...I sometimes give my parents a quick peck on the lips, sometimes I don't. I honestly don't ever think about it until I see it posted on here occasionally lol That being said, I don't kiss my siblings or anyone else like that; however, it wouldn't really bother me if close family or close friends were to give ds a quick peck. I think I've seen my aunt give him a quick kiss on the lips before, but I'm not even sure lol

I kiss both my kids and my DH on the lips...obviously DH gets more of a lip lock then my kids but my 2 1/2 year old loves a good big sloppy kiss on the lips and why would I deny him?
I dont kiss my parents or anyone else's kids on the lips.

Re: kissing your LO on the lips
I always felt the same way about parents kissing on the lips (especially when the kids are older) but now that DS is learning to kiss he goes straight for the lips and it's so cute (he's almost 20 mths). It really is the cutest thing and it's so innocent that I can't possible tell him not to. I think I will allow it as long as he initiates it. I'm sure there will come an age where he won't want a kiss, hug or anything else from mommy! As far as family, I wouldn't really think it was cool for them to initiate a kiss with him on the lips, mostly cuz of germs, ew. But again if HE initiated it with my mom or SIL I don't think I'd make an issue of it.

I always kiss/peck DD on the lips. However, I would not like it if anyone other than DH or I did this.
