Re: Poll of the Week! 1/30/12

We usually pick a primary destination, then DW does research about things in that area that we can visit as well. When we went on a cruise, DW found cool restaurants, museums and other attractions off the beaten path at each port.
When we went to Hershey, DW found a bunch of activities we could do besides just Hershey.

It's not "road-tripping" technically, because we drive to a central location, then go to things relatively close to that destination, but it's kind of similar.

Re: Poll of the Week! 1/30/12

Most of our long vacations (as in 6 out of 7) have been to Disney World but we LOVED our trip to St. Lucia, at an all-inclusive. I would say those two are my favorites. I don't think I would really love a cruise.

Also, when we do Disney, it's ALL Disney.

Definitely cruises! I'm dying to go on one that's longer than 9 days. But at this rate, I'd be happy just to go on one at all!

Re: Poll of the Week! 1/30/12

All-Inclusive!

DH and I can not be trusted with a plastic swipe card when it comes to ordering drinks. We learned that real quick when our $1k bill was slid under our cabin door on our cruise (mostly booze).

We need to go where the drinks are flowing at no additional cost.Chat Icon

we really just go to Aruba every year and are very happy with that... I chose all inclusive resort, but we do not do all inclusive. the restaurants are too good to lock ourselves into eating at the resort!

I chose other -

I like going to new areas and exploring on my own. I hate all-inclusives because for me, a big part of what I like about travel is exploring and trying new restaurants, etc!

I picked other. We like going to a city and spending the time exploring in and around it, either by public transportation or in a rented car. So far we've done Denpasar (Bali), San Jose (Costa Rica), Santiago (Chile), San Diego, Austin, Atlanta, Madrid, and Jerusalem.

I love cruises!! I like being able to wake up in a different place every day, but not having to pack/unpack constantly.

Me as well. We really loved the one cruise we went on, and those are a nice treat, but our other vacations have all been more on the explorer side of things. Chat Icon Even our honeymoon - we road-tripped for part of it.

Cruises! There's just something about being on a huge ship in the middle of the ocean, it's not for everyone but I love it. We just got back on sunday from a weekend cruise and were already planning another one before we even got off.

Other

We usually rent a vacation home for a week or so and do our own thing when it comes to arranging activities, dining and sight-seeing.

Re: Poll of the Week! 1/30/12

Before having a child I loved all inclusive resorts- just go- sit on the beach, drink eat and do NOTHING.
No site seeing, no running around- just SIT.
I could spend the week in a bathing suit with a book and be happy

Now that we have a child I would think that would not be as relaxing as I'd bee chasing her all over the hot sand!
So now I'd chose more of a theme park- family activity kind of trip!

Re: Poll of the Week! 1/30/12

I like to plan my own trips. book my own flights and hotels. find my own places to eat and explore. guidebooks are about as assisted as I get.

our next trip we are going to see the Mille Miglia which is a super cool roadrace through the streets of Italy (goes from Rome up through Tuscany to Brescia and back). then we are headed to Monaco to see the pre races of the Formula 1...then off to Paris to hopefully catch either day 1 or day 2 of the french open.

I hate anything that ties me down to one place or makes me beholden to their schedule (cruises, tours etc)

I am taking my son to Disney once, maybe twice if he is lucky. Planning to take him at 5 and milk that puppy for all it's worth lol.

there is something to be said for the catering of an All-Inclusive resort, but I can only deal with that in very small doses.

Re: Poll of the Week! 1/30/12

I have done it all ways and like all ways lol

I love the convience of all inclusive, especially after my wedding where all we wanted was go veg.

I enjoy planning a trip, picking the hotels, places to set etc. I have done this with Europe trips.

Disney to me is for kids. I will go for my son, and any future children.

Cruises are probably my least favorite, though hopping on a boat from NYC and landing in Bermuda and then rolling off an being 20 minutes from home does rock, so I like cruises if they are from NYC.
