at what age did your DC pick up food and feed themselves?
DD loves food and eats great from a spoon, but she's totally not grasping the concept of feeding herself!! every meal i put finger foods in front of her and then i show her how to lift it up and feed herself, but she just plays with it and most of it ends up in the high chair  . she will eat all sorts of table foods if i feed it to her either with my hangs or on a spoon. we only started finger foods about 2 weeks ago so i know there's a learning curve. im just curious when everyone elses DCs understood how to feed themselves. TIA

My DD was all about feeding herself, but she is a little vacuum cleaner LOL She was right around 8 months when we started giving her finger foods. Little pieces of fruit she was already eating in purees, little bits of chicken, puffs. How old is you DD?

Ds1 was all about being independent and loved eating by himself so he was self feeding at 6 months and by 9 months wanted very little to do with baby food.
Ds2 is the opposite. Has no interest in regular food except to mash it up and make a mess. Finally at 9 months he will self feed with Gerber "doodles" ( that's what my older son calls them) and puffs. But put a piece of pancake there and he has little interest.
Just keep offering soon she will discover the joy of "real" food. And keep eating in front of here the figure it out by mimicing!

she's 8.5m but 6.5m adjusted. we just started her on finger foods 2 weeks ago but she's had some chunky purees too since i make all of her food.

It was actually mothers day! DD was 8 months.
She picked up a piece of food and I took her hand and put it to her mouth. I only had to do that once and she picked it right up

By 9 months he really had the hang of it... This is using his hands it wasn't until 15 months that he was getting the idea of a spoon/fork. Even now at 20 months he prefers his hands

7 months for all 3 of my kids. We never offered before then but they knew just what to do when we offered food.

About 9 months he started with finger foods...it always gets everywhere, but it is so cute to watch him feed himself that I don't care about the cleanup.

I started puffs a week after she turned 6 months. She's 7 months now and can feed herself. Some still end up on her butt 
Just keep doing what your doing, she'll get it eventually. Consistency is key.
I like the puffs because if their fingers are wet (which they always are), they will stick to them and it's easier for them to pick them up.

whats funny is that the one time she did pick up a puff and bring it to her mouth, it stuck to her fingers and never made it in her mouth she hasn't tried again since!!

We started with Puffs at 7 months. By 9 months DS has now got the hang of it.
