Ok, I get that you meant well and whatnot...but this is ridiculous. TWO babies dying of suffocation clearly means they were in unsafe conditions. There IS a safe way to co-sleep...if you go to bed at night with a baby in your bed and loose sheets and a quilt in reach or near enough to smother them...obviously it's a hazard.

Co-sleeping has been done since the dawn of time. do you think the first humans had nice carved wooden cribs like we do? having babies sleep solitary is widely a WESTERN thing...plenty of other cultures do it and have a MUCH lower rate of sids than we do. I can agree that certain things we do learn as we evolve...but I will not accept co-sleeping as the blame for these poor childrens death. I would (after two consecutive losses by the parents) question the integrity of the parents involved and the safety they provided in the situation.

ETA: I find it ironic that pro-cosleepers are called stubborn for believing only our way is right (completely untrue, by the way) when clearly the poster who wrote that thinks only crib sleeping is right. I wonder what people in europe think of us...oh wait...I already know what people in Europe think of us Stubborn westerners.

Ok you definitely jumped to conclusions about what I said and I need to clarify. I never said I was against cosleeping completely nor did I say that "only crib sleeping is right." There are absolutely safe ways to practice cosleeping. Having the baby sleep between you in your bed is not one of them. That was the reason I posted this. I know there are many people who do this, or many new moms who consider it, simply because they don't know any better. My purpose in posting this was to raise awareness about unsafe cosleeping.

ETS: Sorry, I just reread your ETA and realized you were not talking about me with the crib sleeping comment.

Because people are so stubborn that they feel their way is the right way. I hope those who scream about "safe cosleeping" read this. over and over.

I read it three times. I still believe in co sleeping. I was testing your theory. didn't work. but I am a Taurus...so maybe you are on to something with the stubborn thing.

I read this article. I also read several given to me by my MIL who was completely anti co-sleeping (and breastfeeding.. but that's another story..).

I co-slept with both my boys. I would do it again if given the opportunity.

I'm a Taurus too though..Chat Icon

There is without a doubt more to the story regarding those parents...

That said we safely co slept with all our DC since day one and all is well...

def wasn't meant for you, except the beginning part about u meaning well. I know u didn't mean this as drama (although this subject is getting to be right there with B/f vs. not BF, SAHM vs working)

Chat Icon So sad.

If co-sleeping was the reasoning with the first one, they should ha've read up on how to properly co-sleep for the second child. (or not do it at all since they obviously don't know how to do it safely) They could have prevented two precious little lives being lost. (IF in fact it was co-sleeping)

Re: Sad story... co-sleeping tragedy

They had two babies die this way ? There is obviously more to the story than what was stated in this article.
Also, not to sound morbid or anything, but babies also die in their cribs. Why is that given a classification of SIDS, but if parents are co-sleeping, then it is pretty much concluded it is the parents' fault? (not talking about a case like this where it happened twice). Babies all over the world since the beginning of time sleep with their parents. Baby animals sleep all huddled in a big pile with their siblings and their mother.
