Updated: non-stop screaming! Please no judging: are there others out there whose child slept in the swing

due to reflux or other illnesses or issues. If so, how and when did you transition to the crib. Did you CIO? For naps and night or one or the other. Looking for some advice. Thanks!


Update: Now on Attempted Nap #3 for today. First nap in crib was approx 40 min of crying and maybe 20 min of sleep. Nap #2 attempt almost one hour of crying and no sleep finally couldn't take it anymore. Trying again another hour later after BFing and changing him and calming him down. He woke my older DS from his nap b/c of all the screaming, It's nearly impossible to listen to but for all the blood curdling screaming there's nothing wrong with him. Everytime I look at him on the monitor or on the sly he's just laying there perfectly still looking up screaming for me! God give me the strength. How could he not be tired by now?

I tried it for the same reasons. My ped warned against it. Turns out my swing was NOT suitable for this. I had the FP Little Lamb swing. I was in the same room with DD (even during the day for naps) and I found my DD one time slumped over at the waist. So I never did it again. Just being honest. Not judging. Just wanted to let you know, make sure your swing has a five point harness, mine did not.

When DS was really young he napped in the swing most of the time but always slept in his Pack N Play unless he was sick. There really wasn't any medical reason other than him just sleeping really well in there.

My dd napped everyday in the swing until 9 months old. I never let her sleep in it at night because I was too fearful but she never slept good in her crib because she just loved the swing. It took a while for her to get use to naping in the crib but eventually she got over it. Now she looks for her crib when she is tired.

I suggest trying the rock n play sleeper for reflux. It's the best thing ever and worked wonders for DS.

My dd slept in the swing until 1!!!

She was addicted to it. We used to do it because of her reflux..But it became a habit and she loved that Lamb swing..haha..We after her 1st bday we had to let her cry it out. I removed the swing from her bedroom and put it away. After 3 nights of her wanting the swing she started to sleep in the crib.
Now if we could only get her to sleep through the night..I would be in heaven!

My DD napped in the swing for over a year, and starting at around 6 mths, the only way to get her to sleep at night was to start off in the swing, and then transition her to the crib when she was out. Sometimes in the middle of the night when there was nothing I could do to get her to sleep, I would put her in the swing and then watch tv myself, to make it feel more like she was napping, lol.

Breaking the habit was h.a.r.d. It involved a lot of crying, and lots of missed naps. I was only able to do it when I was working from home the 2 weeks before I went into labor with my second daughter. she was 12.5 mths at the time.

My kids both napped in their swing ds just stopped atb13 months We ave a graco that is very sturdy and has a harness. We also had the fp one but the kids would slump in it so we didn't use it . Both kids had reflux then he swing was a habit for them. No judging here, do whats best for the kids ( how ever they will sleep!)

For the first 6 months every night and every nap.
No sleeping issues at all now. She sleeps nightly in her crib since we transitioned her. She is 21 months old.

DS is 8wks and uses it for naps and from 8p-1a normally. I sleep on the couch RIGHT NEXT TO HIM. It fing sucks, but he sleeps. After his 1am feeding we normally can get him in the bassinet but we spend at least 1/2 an hour or more getting him alseep. It has been better the last 2 nights, but right now I would rather sleep crappy on the couch then not at all. No judging here. You do what you can. I will let you know in a few days how it goes since he rolled over from belly to back last night so IMHO it's time for the crib at bedtime. GOD help us all.

When we brought DD2 home from the hospital, she slept great in the bassinette. When she was 7 weeks old, she got a cold, ear infection, and a chest infection. The pediatrician recommended her to sleep elevated. But she's a crazy sleeper, moving all over, so the only thing we had that would incline a bit was the swing. She ended up sleeping in it until she was about 4 months old

We did transition to the crib but it wasn't easy. There was a lot of tears, a lot of rocking to sleep, and we did CIO at about 6months.

ETA: This is the swing we used... I don't think there was any way she could have sat up in that... it was a very low incline

If DD liked the swing then I would have gladly let her sleep in it! She loved the bouncer and spent A LOT of time in that thing.

He is 100% fine, was sitting up on his own at 5 months, crawling at 8 months and walking by a year.

We had to do CIO at 7 months when we moved him to his crib. I took a week off of work and made it my goal to focus on it. I started with naps during the day and at night it was rough, first night he cried/screamed for an 1 1/2 hours and then finally went to sleep, 2nd day was better and by the 3rd day he was sleeping like a dream!!!

You have to hang in there and just know that "it will get better". We did not go in and out of his room all night, we knew it would only make it worse.

We did not care what other people thought or said, we did what worked for all of us and our Ped had no problem with it.

DS slept in the swing for a few weeks when he was pretty young. He took naps in it for a long time, but the night time was only a little while b/c MIL told us her chiropractor said it was bad for DS back (I have found no other info to back this up but at the time I freaked a little.)

So, we tried swaddling (we had tried previous and it never worked but b/c we didn't know what else to do and were too afraid to have him in the swing we decided to give it another go.) And the swaddling really worked the second time around. He started sleeping in his bassinet for around 8 hours a night.

DS had reflux and slept either in his swing or bouncy seat for naps and sometimes all night long... It was the only way he could sleep comfortably. I always slept with him.. For the first 8-10 weeks, he would sleep at night in the newborn napper of his pack and play. It was slightly inclined...

Both my sons slept in the swing until they were falling out. ha ha ha.. I had to let them CIO unfortunately. Good Luck!

My DD naps in her carriage (the bassinet attachment) bc that is the only place I can get her to nap...she either falls asleep bfing or I put her in it and rock her for a few minutes. She naps for 2 hours now since I started doing this! I'm not a fan of CIO and think its better for her to nap than to cry in her crib.

At night getting her to sleep in her crib is sometimes challenging but we still don't CIO...and it's getting better.

I'm curious, why do you want to want to transition him to the crib? Do you feel he is too old?

My DS has acid reflux, so we bought him the Rock & Play Sleeper and it really helped a lot, but he still naps in his Snugabunny swing. He hates his crib. Good Luck!!! You're not alone.
