Crashing...Very large baby shower
Has anyone had a very large baby shower over 150 people?
My friend is pregnant and her and her boyfriend are insisiting they want 150 people at her shower. My other friend is helping out with the shower and is trying to tell them that with a budget of $4K for EVERYTHING it's really hard to find a place to accomodate all those people. Does anyone have any suggestions of a place (not a community center since they don't want one of those), that can accomodate so many people at a reasonable price? Thanks.
Prefer: Queens, Bklyn, BX, or Western Nassau.

I am sorry but tell them to get married for a big party. 150 people imo is way too many. $4k budget she is really pushing it.

Who set the $4K budget? The mom to be or the friend? I mean, I guess if the friend has the funds, ok, but it seems a bit ridiculous to me.
And the whole not wanting a room etc? Well what's left? Either a restaurant or a catering hall.

Other than the craziness of it all, the only place I can think of is The Stewart Manor in Stewart Manor (a subset of Garden City). We had our wedding there and it was cheap. Talk to James, he's the owner along with his mom. Very helpful and willing to work with your budget. BUT! I doubt you'll be able to get ANYWHERE for 150 ppl at 4K... JMHO tho

Thanks everyone. Personally I think that is way overkill on guests for a baby shower. We are trying to convince them to cut the guest list by half. Her boyfriend is paying for everything with the exception of the cake that my other friend is buying. I don't think they can pull it off with that budget in a catering hall or restaurant but I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas.

They need to get over themselves. DH has a huge family and I only had 30 people at mine!

Yes co-Ed but I think they are inviting EVERYONE they know which from what I understand is not standard protocol for baby showers....they just don't want to cut the guest list.

I had less people at my wedding...
she should keep is small and if she is worried about gifts, I am sure those not invited will give something if they feel the need to anyway.

Wait, the father to be is paying for it? I never understood that sort of thing. The shower is meant to shower the parents with gifts. What's the point if the dad is putting 4k for the party?

I think the shower is an excuse for a wedding-like party. I wouldn't even let my mom spend $1k, because IMHO, its not worth it. Tell them too save their money for diapers, formula, etc..
But my opinion aside, to answer your question. What about like a Knights of Columbus or a VFW?

This is how my shower was. DH paid most of it and we had about 200 people so it was around 5k. (I had around 250 in my wedding, we just come from big families).
To ME, a shower (especially a big one) is the responsibility of the parents to be, they are the ones that will be getting presents and saving money with the gifts bought for their baby. It might be cultural but that's how most of the showers I grew up were: a big party with tons of food, liquor, music, dancing etc.
To the OP- as far as locations there are many catering halls that rent the space BUT you are better off looking at Banquet Halls. With catering hall you pay a fee per person for the space and then you have to pay for everything else on your own.

Hmmm. That's about $25 pp including tax and service charge. Really along the lines of $20 pp.
Here's a place (restaurant) that comes close in Queens:

Their food is good. The lowest price catering menu at $21pp would bring you to $4100.
If you guarantee a lot of people, sometimes prices can be a bit more flexible. I'm not sure how many people can fit though.
Sometimes you can work out a lunch at a place that has a fixed price option.
