Newborn with Club Foot...Can anyone share experience with this.

My twins were born this week and one had Club Feet. Here feet are very flexible and they think with casting and then braces they will be straight. Can anyone share with me any experience they have.

Thank You!

I have a cousin that had this with her child and she actually had to have surgery. Let me tell you she is the most active (in dance classes) wonderful child in the world.

Yes! I have plenty of experience. I was born with bilateral club feet. The remedies back then (34 years ago) were much different then now.
I found out at my 20 week sonogram with my son that he also was going to have bilateral club feet. He was born otherwise perfectly healthy. I made an appointment with one of the best pediatric orthopedists here on Long Island-Dr.Wesley Carrion. We saw him when Kyle was 5 days old and he put casts on both legs with his feet turned out-each week he would remove the casts and turn his feet even more outward. At 8 weeks Kyle needed to have tendon surgery since sometimes with club foot the achilles tendons are too short and tight, he had it done at StonyBrook hospital and he had to stay the night just to observe since he had general anesthesia (I stayed with him). He did wonderful. He had to wear the surgical casts for a full 3-4 weeks. After the casts were removed he had to wear a special foot brace (google Ponsetti brace) for 23 hours a day! When he was starting to try to crawl, the doctor said to lessen the time he needed to wear the braces. He then was instructed to wear the braces at nighttime only. He has to wear them until he is 4 (to prevent relapse)-he will be 4 in lesss than 2 months so we discontinued them this week-yayyy! Kyle has done wonderful-luck for us, he never gave us a hard time with the braces-he would put them on every night without a fuss. His feet look perfect and he is a great little athlete and climber ;)
FM if you have any other questions :)

One of my nephews had the same exact as Dani's son. Start to finish. He's 2.5 now and walks fine etc. still wears brace at night.

Hey! My DS #2 was born with a right club foot that was determined in utero @ my 20 week sono. He had 3 soft markers one being the foot, It was probably the worst appointment to ever go to, I had an amnio to make sure everything was ok! All other issues were ruled out and the other 2 soft markers corrected while in utero. info! My son was casted for first 6 weeks and then went into shoes but wound up having to have the surgery on his tendon Chat Icon then being re-casted for 2 weeks. Now he's only in shoes part-time but it's definitely a struggle, if you have any questions FM me!
