Are we crazy? Loooooong road trip planned with 10 month old?

DH and I are planning a road trip when DS is not quite 10 months old to TN. It's about a 13 hour drive. We're not against breaking it up into 2-3 days of driving, stopping at hotels along the way.

Are we insane?

Right now, DS at 4 months is pretty good in the car and usually falls asleep (as long as we're moving and not stuck in traffic!).

We also have a pretty set bedtime routine for him that I'm so scared of messing with. I would never take this road trip with him at his age now... is it crazy to think it would be more doable in 6 months?

I've been there and done it too. Be very prepared and if your baby likes to sleep in the car it'll be super easy. We drive most of the trip at night and try stopping somewhere to eat that would tire them out. Be safe and have fun.

Not crazy at all... We went to disney when DS was almost 5 months old... We did it in 2 overnights.. But he was a champ in the car.. We took him to NH 4 times between the ages of 11 months and 20 months.. Also a breeze. 8 hours each way... We got a DVD player for him when he was about 9 months old.. We love taking road trips... ANd so far he has been great. We just came back from disney last month. He is 2 now.. 10 months should be fine. 13 hours isn't bad...

Not crazy at all. I suggest trying to leave around bedtime & drive through the night. I always find its a much.smoother trip that way. My parents live 7.5 hrs away & I take the boys routinely. My oldest took his first trip when he was just 7 months. He slept the entire trip & woke upon arrival

I've driven to our beach house in North Carolina with my DS who was then 6 months and also at 11 months. Both times he did fine, but I learned after the first trip that I should leave room next to his carseat so I can climb back there sometimes, so he would be ok. We also got a DVD player which helped.

ETA: It took about 15 hrs one time and 12 the second, so I don't think you're crazy!

Not crazy...not easy either.

I just got back from a 17 hour car trip with my 3 year old DS and 8.5 month old DD. They were really well behaved the whole way, but we had to stop pretty often to keep the infant on her feeding schedule. The travel didn't mess with her night time sleep at all. She napped when she wanted and I don't think she napped any more than she would have if she was at home. When we got to my parents, she still went to be at her normal bedtime. Travel is pretty exhausting for little ones!

For 13 hours of travel, I would NOT break it up into 3 days of driving. Even with all the stopping, I'd probably push and do it in one day. JMO.
