Exercise

Is anyone doing it?

I've always been pretty active but since becoming pregnant I was worried then not feeling well. At 17 weeks I started walking 2-3 times a week for 30 min but feel that thats not enough. Just wondering how far along you are, what type and how much you exercise?

Re: Exercise

I am almost 10 wks. I havent exercised at all. I didnt b/f I got BFP either. Now that the Holidays are over I, like everyone else in the world, am committing myself to an exercise routine. Chat Icon

My game plan, which I already discussed w/my Dr is to walk 3-4 x's a week for about 45 min, yoga 2-3 x's a week and free weights (5-7lb) for upper body strength 2 x's per week. My dr said it all sounded good as long as I dont get my heart rate too high.

Re: Exercise

I've been going to the gym or walking consistenly till I was about 20 weeks. Then I got lazy Chat Icon at my 24 week appointment, I was up 9 pounds (I gained it in one month!)
My doc was NOT thrilled at all, and told me to get back on the ball. Now I'm walking around the neighborhood for an hour abut 3x a week, and doing the elliptical at the gym about 2x a week.

Try to stay as active as you can without overdoing it. It will only benefit you in the end!

Re: Exercise

I'm so sad because just a month before BFP I was probably in the best shape of my life for my wedding and I was going to the gym fanatically. Even twice a day. I actually won our office biggest loser contest Chat Icon

however, I had no energy after BFP or the motivation. I went a few times in the beginning but honestly, movement would make me want to vomit Chat Icon

I've been meaning to go but...hasn't happened Chat Icon

Re: Exercise

I started to but then i fell off the wagon...However, I work in Manhattan 3 days a week and walk each of those days about 50 minutes...that's it; After the new year, i am going to try to do something - either go on treadmill, increase walking time or just just tame down the eating because i'm gettting too big.

Re: Exercise

I had a hard time in the beginning. I was an avid bike rider and walker before getting pregnant. A typical walk for me was 3-4 miles, and a typical bike ride was 10-15 miles. I was getting in 150+ miles a month. I had lost 157 lbs before getting pregnant and so I was feeling GREAT.

The first trimester was rough. I was terrified to ride my bike, even though my doctor said it was OK to do so.

Instead I have moved towards walking, and at most I do about 1.5 miles at a time. I am walking 3-4 days out of the week, and I know it is better then nothing, but I wish I was doing more. Now it is hard with the colder weather. It makes me wish I had a gym membership.

Re: Exercise

I used to do a lot of Jillian Michaels DVD's, Insanity, and running on the treadmill, when I got my BFP I switched to just walking on the treadmill. I also bought a prenatal workout DVD that is divided up by trimester, however my doc told me to refrain from any crunches/ab work so I just skip that part of the video. I am over 6 weeks, thankfully I haven't felt sick yet.

Re: Exercise

Nope!
I started walking in my 1st tri..the very first day I got a migraine from the fresh cut grass. Then, the heat made me nauseous so I waited for fall. Finally, I got put on bed rest...so the only excercise I get is when and if I can squat to pick something up or when I go up the stairs to my bedroom.Chat Icon

ETA: I was not active before BFP and now at 36 weeks, it's too late to start. Once Chat Icon comes, and it's nice enough out, I will take us for walks -even if it's at the mall.

Re: Exercise

I do prenatal yoga 1x a week and walk 1 mile 2 days a week, 2.5 miles 1 day a week.

So, not a ton but definitely trying to keep sort of active.

Exercise is as good for a pregnant woman as a normal woman Chat Icon Just pay attention to your body's cues and you'll be fine.

Re: Exercise

I did prenatal yoga DVDs almost every day when I felt good... they get you less nutty as you go further along in the pregnancy. Also walked a lot. I was also very active & fit b4 preggo, so I just did what I could when preggo. (didn't run, but walked a LOT).

Re: Exercise

Before getting pregnant I was jogging 3 times a week, at 2-3 miles per jog. Normally you can continue this during pregnancy. However, I had a few complications in the beginning and doc told me not to do any exercise until he said it was okay. That lasted 6 weeks. I was bummed because I was finally in an exercise routine. Now, if I exercise once a week it is a lot. I really want to get back into a routine. I guess I can't jog now but I shoujld be able to walk several times a week. Anyway, I am going to try to make it happen.

Holycow. tht happened to me as well. I was only cleared about 2 weeks ago, and have not had the motivation to go backtothe gym. I was training for a half marathon, and now amable tojust walk.. no more running for me until the baby is born.. I cant wait to start running again..

Me too!! I was a somewhat an avid runner anywhere between 3-5 times a week 2-4 miles. I had high hopes of doing the Diva Half this past October but that didn't go as planned. I haven't really gotten back into a routine because now I feel so much pressure and I'm nervous. I will be training for the Diva Half for this upcoming October once the lil guy makes his debut if anyone is interested!!

Re: Exercise

I've only run a handful of times since getting pregnant, but when I do, I run 3-4 miles. I go much slower than I usually do. Prior to getting pregnant, I ran 3-6 miles, generally 2-3 times per week. I have friends who continued to run through 7 months.

I am only around 7-8 weeks and have an 18 mos old DD who keeps me very busy so I have not exercised probably before I had her!
Is it safe for me to start some kind of exercise now? I know I should discuss with my dr. but I am just feeling so tired, no energy...I feel gross and feel like some walking or something might do me good.
It should all be ok as long as I don't overdue it which I definitely don't plan to.

I do just about the same as I did before. I run 5-7 miles 3-4 days a week and hit the gym for cardio and weights 2x a week. I did the same with my DD and lasted until about 8 months and then had to walk due to the pressure and hip pain.

I too can't wait to start again. I see people jogging and almost get jealous. I have jogged like a half a mile slowly at the gym but I am afraid to do anymore even though doc says it is okay. Hopefully I will have the time to get back into it after the birth.

I worked out before I was PG and have continued doing so now that I am PG with no issues. I do cardio (elliptical or stationary bike) 3x a week & strength training 2x a week. I hope to keep it up all the way to the end!!
