As a BTDT, the reality will probably be that baby will sleep in whatever he/she will actually stay asleep in

With DS I FULLY meant for him to sleep in his crib from day 1. Well, he cried and cried and it was horrible. So he slept in his swing, rock n play sleeper, bouncer, anything that he liked. My Ped ok'd it.

I will try again to have baby in the crib from day 1, but after spending 6 months of mostly sleepless nights with DS, I know I will do anything I can to get the new baby to sleep and get some for myself too (if I actually can between a newborn and a 2 year old, lol).

the same I did with my first 2, a bassinet for 2-3 months and then transition to the crib.

We are setting DD's old crib up in our room. Although, DD hated her crib andthe bassinet until she was a few months old.

my plan right now is to use the bassinette for as long as we can and then the crib. Of course we will have to see how things go.

I had a bassinet for dd and she wouldn't sleep in it. This time I am going straight to a pack n play with the bassinet top.

The bassinet. For some reason my pnp doesn't seem very comfy. The mattress is very flimsy.

I heard only use it for naps because if they sleep in it all the time something can happen to the shape of their head.

Im using the bassinet my DS used

but doesn't that apply to any flat surface that they sleep on? which is why changing head poisition and tummy time is suggested.

Yes, MrsCampos, I believe you are correct. My son developed a flat head simply from sleeping in his crib. Tummy time and just getting older corrected it nicely.

Actually, the Rock n Play is worse for them. The RnP is on an incline, so the baby's head slumps over to the side (like when you fall asleep sitting up on the train). My DD slept like a rock in her Rock n Play... until we had to see a Physical Therapist for her torticollis and flat head. The physical therapist made us throw ours away that night. The RnP is great for getting them to sleep but terrible for their neck/head. If you're going to use it, PLEASE do what I didn't do (and I am mad at myself and have cried so many tears over): change the direction they sleep in every night so they don't always tilt to the same side. Either physically move their heads, or switch the RnP around every day so when they look towards the window, they're looking on different sides. And if you see them slumping to the same side every night, ditch the Rock n Play, the swing, and the bouncy seat - anything that has them on an incline. I wish I had. My DD needs physical therapy every week, exercises at home 4 times a day, and might need a helmet next month. It might not have happened if I had noticed how she was sleeping in the RnP.
