For those in the Amity Harbor Area - Need Gift Idea

A very close friend's mom is dying of cancer.Chat Icon She lives at home and while they do have an aide for part of the day, most of the caretaking falls upon my friend and her dad. Her birthday was this past weekend and rather than buy something, I was thinking of taking her to FOR something (like a foot massage or a mani/pedi). She does not want to leave the house for a long period of time so something local is necessary. She is not one to spend money on herself so I thought this would be something nice and at least get her out of the house for a little while. Does anyone who lives in the area have any suggestions on where to go? Other gift suggestions for the area are appreciated too. It is important that I do it WITH her otherwise she wont go on her own. TIA! (oh..she doesnt drink)

Hi.

I live in Amity Harbor. There is a nail salon place called Nails & Relaxation that is decent.

It's on the corner of Coolidge Ave. & Merrick Rd.

Would she be willing to go out to a yoga class?

I go to Hot Yoga Massapequa and it's $20.00 for 10 days of unlimited yoga for people who are new.

They have classes as early as 6AM and as late as 8PM, and it's about a 10 minute drive from here.

In terms of restaurants, in the Amity Harbor area there's only Mama's that I can think of that is good for a sit-down meal.

There are a couple of other spas/salons right here but TBH, I've never been so can't comment on them.

HTH!!

Is Nails and Relaxation just a nail place or do they offer other services like massages?

Personally I think the Yoga would be great but she wont go. She is barely leaving the house but for grocery shopping or for things she deems necessities. However, she will leave the house if someone encourages her to go with them.

Thank you for your suggestion. She lives at the end of Coolidge so that would be perfect!

I am pretty sure they have other services there. I will be sending you an FM as well.

There is a spa in Babylon - its really not too far from Amity Harbor, right on Main St. called Eternal The Spa - they offer all kinds of massages, mani/pedi, facials, etc. If you are looking for a good restauarnt, try Athena - its aGreek restaurant, in a strip mall on Merrick Rd (Just past Big Al's Gym, on the other side of the street) The food there is always great.

Nails and Relaxation does other spa services there and they're pretty reasonable in price and friendly...

There is also a foot masage place right on Mains Street in Amityville (across from the triangle, on the East side). They're reasonably prices and excellent!

Also, there is Vittorios in Amityville (across the street) or Park Avenue Grill to have lunch or dinner..

There's also Cornucopia's Noshery in Amityville which is a cute little cafe with live music.

DH and I went once for Sunday brunch.

I also recently went to Salumi in Massapequa and enjoyed it. It's a tapas place but I don't know if she would be uncomfortable there because obviously wine is also their speciality.

Maybe if you went earlier in the day though?

I also keep meaning to go, Brownstone's Coffee House in Amityville. A few of the local ladies go there and said it's really good.
