Delivering at St. Charles

The visiting hours for st. charles are 2-4pm for grandparents/siblings and 7-8pm for everyone else.....for the ladies who have delivered at st. charles before.....were they super strict on this? I know I will want my rest but I also know that no one will be able to come from 2-4 so it seems like i will have an hour of pure chaos because that will be the only time people can come........

Also, i had heard if you get a private room they are more flexible because you are the only one in the room.....is this true? Would DH be able to stay with me the night if i had a private room? if i didn't get a private room but I didn't have a room mate would they be more flexible as if i did have a private room?

Lots of questions, hoping for answers!

The babies are allowed in your room until visiting hours. So before anyone is allowed in all babies have to be in the nursery. They also won't let you come get your baby again until all guests have left. So yes, they are fairly strict with the visitors.

Im not sure about how it works with a private room but would be interested too bc I was thinking of splurging when I have this baby.

I went on a hospital tiur last night through lamaze and was told that in the 3 private rooms they had, dh was allowed to stay. I think even in the regular shared rooms he could stay if you were the only one in there, not sure if you had a room mate though. Private rooms are $200 a night extra.

I delvered twice at St. Charles. Both times I did not have a roomate and both times and nurses came in around 10pm and told DH he had to go home.

They weren't as strict with the daytime visiting hours. My sisters were able to come up and see my DDs. Also when I was there with my 1st DD there was a mom who had her 4/5yo there all day long with her. As long as we were quiet and there weren't a ton of people they really didn't care. The last time I delivered was almost 2 years ago so they might be more strict now.

The 7-8hour does get a little hectic, but I liked that it was short and then they make everyone leave.

I know a few people who have delievered there and I will as well.. They were very strict with the 7pm hourWe couldnt go in until 7 on the nose and the nurses came around and kick us out. Please tell people to get there early. PARKING $UCK$ at that hospital. I can remember driving around for over half an hour and finally getting a spot. that left us with very little visiting time. During the daytime hours, I know a friend had a close friend come visit and I was going to also but didnt feel like taking the chance that I would get kicked out so I went to the beach. Her DH was there with her all day though until about 10 at night. HTH

I went home the very next day after I delivered so dont really remember nursing staff being strict. I sent my BF home to get some rest & I wanted to just sleep & hang out with my DD so having ppl come in and out was not what I wanted at that time. I did not have a roommate so it was pretty nice and quiet.
For the short time I was there I loved the L&D and Maternity ward staff. Great hospital.

Thanks Ladies! If the only thing i have to worry about is visiting hours I think i'm in good shape! As much i would like to get a private room i just can't afford it right now so i will be fine with the regular rooms. Thanks again for giving me your input....so far i've only heard good things about st. charles which is so nice to hear!

The 1st time, I payed for the private room...DH was able to sleep in the room with me...

2nd and 3rd time I didnt get the private room but lucked out with no roomate once and the last time, only had a roomate for 1 day (I was a c-section)...DH could not stay over so far as I know....

They were fairly flexible with visitors for the 2-4 visiting (they didnt question my familys members relationship etc..) I tried to be respectful as far as noise etc. and did not have any children aside from my DC's up during that time ..Obviously the more people that come to visit, the more germ exposure other's newborns have as well, so I understand why they have the rule in place...


And, not that you asked but the breakfast buffet is DELICIOUS
