Re: LIRR is over the top tonight

DH left work at 5pm in Brooklyn. He came home just before 9pm.

He did not make it out of Jamaica until after 7:40pm. Then ANOTHER HOUR from Jamaica to Hicksville.

Re: LIRR is over the top tonight

My dh finally made it home at midnight last night. The train he was on started moving around 11 (I think) but making local stops.
He left work at 5, there was no reason the lirr didn't have bus service last night to shuttle the passengers. It really was unacceptable, and it's horrible that they don't even care. you cannot trap ppl in cars like that for hours without a/c, of course there are ppl that are going to get sick and need medical help. The lirr should have had some kind of contingency plan. To do nothing is just so unacceptable.

These stories are insane. I live in Queens and have my share of A train horror stories, but for the most part you can get out somewhere and get something else! If I was trapped on that railroad and god forbid had a medical condition and no one was saying ANYTHING i'd be beyond livid. Screw you Jay Walder, the next MTA chief should be forced to commute on public transport!

Re: LIRR is over the top tonight

See that's the thing. I get you can't control weather but come on, communicate at least. He said they were just stopped with NOTHING. No one was saying anything. First thing I said is where are the buses. It makes sense that the weather is beyond our control, but it doesn't make sense not to have a plan for when this happens.

Re: LIRR is over the top tonight

After reading these stories I guess mine wasnt that bad. Left work at 445 headed to Hunterspoint (my normal station) and sat on a train fro an hour then decided to hop on the 7 to the E to jamaica where I jumped on a train to Ronlonkoma and was hoem just before 8....yes it was a long day but compared to others mine was not that bad.

Except fot he jerk that pushed me (pregnant) and 2 little kids to get on the train. I punched him!!!!!

Re: LIRR is over the top tonight

I drove all the way to the city and picked DH up from there. Getting there was easy - 45 minutes from Amityville to Midtown. Took us about an hour and a half to get home due to construction on the LIE. Just as we pulled into the Massapequa train station to get his car (11:30), the train was arriving.

LIRR service is pathetic, it is always something. Rain, wind, too cold, snow, the entire system falls apart. The ticket prices are insane too, we save 400 bucks a month bc dh works from home. I feel bad for everyone that has to rely on the LIRR

And even more appalling is the price they charge for such horrendous service.
Just keep raising the prices and lower the service.
They are HORRENDOUS!

I was on the 7:48 as well last night, and I got home at 11PM last night...

What a nightmare....I'm exhausted!

I feel like anyone that has a monthly ticket should be reimbursed for one month. They really need to offer something - because this just isn't right anymore...

I just got back from picking up DH at Kew Gardens. Loaded 2 sleeping kids into the car and off we went. Thank God we were able to get him.

Fun times courtesy of the LIRR. All for the low low price of $225 a month. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Oh and the icing on the cake was getting stuck at a railroad crossing (for a passing train Chat Icon ) 5 blocks from my house. Chat Icon

I was prob on the same train as your DH. Left Penn Station at 7:15 on a Ronkonkoma train. Completely packed none the less. Sat for two hours on the train. Finally the last car was on the platform at Kew Gardens and they let us out. Got my cousin to come get me since DH was home with two sleeping children and she drove me to Ronkonkoma.
LIRR is awful. Yes it was a weather related incident but how they handled it was not acceptable. NO announcements, NO buses, NO answers when you asked the conductor.
Yes people shouldn't jump out of the trains but people were starting to get sick because of the heat and smell from the bathrooms. It was a total nightmare.

I am so sorry so many of you/your hubbies had to deal with that! LIRR is the abosolute worst and does not have any back-up emergency plan whatsoever! Can you imagine if there was a real life-threatening emergency???

This is one of the MAIN reasons why my husband will NEVER agree to move out east...as long as we're working in the city, it will never happen.

I had to drive to Jamaica to get DH. GPS took me to the wrong place twice. Over an hour and a half later, I am there and DS is crying.

To top it off, DH clearly has bronchitis and dealt with all of that sooo sick.

I told him that even if there is no service, he's not going in. Sick day.

He was on a train from 6pm till 10:30.

People keep jumping out of the stopped trains so they had to cut the power over and over. There was no AC. The cops got on the trains and were patroling them. They were trying to stop the jumpers. *****? WHO JUMPS OUT OF A TRAIN??? He was sooo mad. Then there was a medical emergency. His phone died. They talked about sending his train back to penn but, eventually bumped up to another train stuck at the Jamaica platform and let them walk through 2 trains to get off. Chat Icon

It sounds like your DH was on the same train as a friend of mine.

This was his FB status last night at about 2am:

After 6 hrs commuting, I am finally home. What a sh!t show!! I would like to thank the following:
-The nice folks I met tonight
-The kind folks who asked me if I needed after standing for hours
-The young girl in the wheel chair who showed such poise and grace while being told by the conductor over the PA system to be patient that they will get to her when they can!!
-The woman who repeatedly kept calling 911 to say there were thousands who were being kept against their will
-The old man who gave me a piece of gum
-The one and only conductor who fought her way through all the cars to give us the little information they had
-My new friend Bob, who I was wagering with about what time we would get moving...He won btw!!

Those who can suck it:
-THE LIRR
-The prick Cops who were such d0uche bags to anyone who asked them a question!! Protect and serve my a$$!! Police officers are not what they used to be. OH, and who also told the young lady in the whelel chair to relax, someone will get to her when they can. ***** JERK OFFS!!
-The jerk offs who jumped off the train (there were numerous), resulting in the LIRR cutting all power and leaving us with no AC or ventilation
-Again, the cops who said there were no buses at Jamaica to assist when in actuality, there were a fleet waiting!!
-Again, the ***** LIRR!!

Think he was a little frustrated?? Chat Icon

Re: LIRR is over the top tonight

I used to commute via NJ transit out of Trenton to Penn station for 3 years. This sounds worse than my worst delays on NJtransit. I think the longest was almost 4 hours because of a suicide on the tracks.

I truly believe when these things happen, all the staff go hide in a closet somewhere b/c you will NEVER find a conductor or anyone giving information about what is going on.

I was 8 mo pregnant and my train lost power one nite. I was stuck for hours with no lights, no ac, no bathroom. and the conductors I always see on my car just F**** disappeared. Couldnt find anyone giving information. thank god i didnt need medical help.

its infuriating with the money they charge. I've been on trains in Boston and in Paris and those are so much better.
