Preparing tuna for a toddler
I have never given my DS tuna fish. I was always worried about the mercury and possible harmful effects and never got around to it.
But, I'd like to add tuna to his diet so I need some suggestions on how to prepare it and what tuna to buy?
Am I supposed to buy tuna packed in oil or water? And is it Albacore or something else?
Also, do you just mix it with some mayo, celery to make like a tuna fish sandwich or do you add other things?
Thx!

We've attempted tuna salad a couple of times and Kaydyn does not like it. We just did albacore, mayo, salt and pepper. I always buy packed in water so that's what we gave her.

chunk lite is the lowest on mercury, albacore is the highest of the tuna
I would try canned salmon instead, its even lower in mercury and you can find it wild and domestic cheap!

I prepare it with a little sour cream and a little mayo, and a little lemon juice, that's it, just mash it up and put in pita bread.
If baby has diary issues skip the sour cream. If they have an egg issue skip the mayo, or use egg less mayo.
You can add breadcrumbs to it, to make it a little easier in texture.

I think you'd have to ingest a lot of it to be worried about the mercury factor. I have given my DD tuna since she was 10-11 months but she doesnt have it often. I usually do a tuna salad...celery, onions, mayo. sometimes you can do a hard boiled egg in there too to make it egg/tuna sandwich. you can even just put some on crackers and eat right out of the can. I always buy it packed in water and never buy the albacore.

chunk lite packed in water...DD USED to eat it and like it but now that she is 2 she only eats oh like, 2 things. I so wish she would eat it again. Annnnyway, I used to just mix it up with mayo, salt and pepper and toss in half a chopped hard boiled egg. she either ate it out of a bowl like that or with crackers. a pita or a wrap would probably be good for a toddler too. or maybe those new goldfish flats!

I use chunk lite in water - the ped said not to give it to often but 1-3 times a month was okay. I just mix a little mayo and put it on bread with tomato. DD#1 loves it DD#2 won't eat it. She also likes it on whole wheat crackers.
