My name can't be a nickname, I always wish I had one growing up.

I love that my daughter can be Julia, Julie, Jules. I wonder which one she will prefer, which one her friends will be calling her.


My son is Alexander, but we usually just call him Alex. Occasionally I will use his full name.
I wouldn't have just named him Alex. To me, that is a nickname not a full name.

Actually, my husband's legal name is Bill and he gets annoyed when wedding invitations and other formal things come addressed to William. He always says, "that's not my name."
I always say, " well what do you expect ? Who names their child just Bill!?!"
So there is a reason NOT to name your child a nickname.

My DD is Alexis and we call her Alexis and/or Alex. I love the idea of her having the choice of what she wants to be called later on. She responds to both now but I'm sure she will eventually have a preference.
