Re: baby food---earths best or make your own???
By making your own you know exactly what is being used and how it is being handled. I made food for DD and thought it would be so hard, but it was really simple. I steamed most of her stuff and puried it in a food processor. When you make your own, it goes so much further than the store bought would go. And it is a big $$$ savings

I did both. Made some things that were cost effective (applesauce, sweet potatoes, etc.) but organic things that are expensive I used Earth's Best (and Gerber organic) I also use jars on "the run" becaue they're easier.

Re: baby food---earths best or make your own???
homemade is just so much more tasty, if you can do homemade, I don't understand why you wouldn't.
You also know whats in it, I found that jarred baby food had a lot of fillers and was very watered down. It also tasted terrible to me.
eta: if you do need food on the go or whatever, the most tasty brand, I personally like, is plum organics. They have these great veggie/fruit pouches that are like smoothies in flavor. DS loves them and I still give him them as a snack.

I do like Plum.
I've read people say this before on here about fillers but every single EB jar I've read has nothing but pure ingredients..

I made a lot of homemade baby food for my DC and I also used Earth's Best, especially when we were on the go. It is very easy to make it homemade. You just boil, steam, or use the oven to soften the fruit or veggie. I used the magic bullet to puree it. I never froze it like most people do. I just made small batches that lasted 2-3 days.

Same here. It was easier with my first because i had more time. I love making the food and knowing exactly what is in there. However, the jars are easy to transport. I also loved some of the jarred combinations.
What I did initially with both boys was to start them off on jars to ensure they weren't allergic. Once I knew that, I made my own food.

Re: baby food---earths best or make your own???
#1 I bought...#2 I never bought a single jar.
Making the food was so easy. I mainly used a sweet potato base then added different greens and fruits to it.
Every 3 days I would boil water, put a metal strainer over pot throw in a green and a fruit, cover and cook for about 5 minutes.
I baked sweet pot once a week. I would take potato and veggie and fruit and blend in magic bullet as needed. mornings were usually a banana mixed with the veggie and fruit.
it was so cheap. at night, whatever veggie we were eating, I would just throw into bullet and she would eat that.

this!
also, we tried jars with DS but he just spit it out. with homemade, i can adjust how thick it is (by adding water if necessary) and he took to them with no problem.

Re: baby food---earths best or make your own???
I did both...
It was more cost effective to make the basics - applesauce, squash, etc.
When baby got older I would jus puree what we were eating for dinner and if it was something they could not eat we would warm up some cubes from freezer or use jarred baby food.
I also like that I could use the frozen cube of fruit and mix with yogurt...so I would buy a big jug of plain yogurt, which also saved a lot of money

Re: baby food---earths best or make your own???
I made all of DD's food. I found it was cheaper and I knew exactly what she was getting. No extra salt, sugar, or anything else. It was very cost effective and easy.
I used this cookbook, Baby Love, as my guide for almost all of her food.

Re: baby food---earths best or make your own???
i did both too
at first when little guy was really little, id boil apples or pears etc and puree them
then i realized that in the organic section of my supermarket, the variety was minimal. i decided that it was more important for him to eat a variety of fruits, so i started buying jarred fruit when i couldnt find the fruits in the store
vegetables and meats i made myself- never jarred for that. i just boiled and dumped in the blender or bullet

Re: baby food---earths best or make your own???
I mostly make my own, but keep a few jars of Earth's Best on hand if we're on the run and I'm not sure that I'll be able to heat up my homemade stuff.
ETA: I use a steamer basket for most things. I baked sweet potatoes and squash. Then puree in my food processor or blend with immersion blender. I freeze in ice cube trays. One cube=one ounce.

Re: baby food---earths best or make your own???
I just started making my own baby food. I'm trying to use all organic fruits and veggies. So far, it's been super easy. I make it all when DD takes a nap.
I bought a steamer basket and a mini food processor. I'm not really into baby gadgets - I think they're overpriced and I want to be able to use everything again when DD is older - so this was the best option for me. I also bought bpa free ice cube trays. I steam or bake everything.
I went to Trader Joe's for produce this weekend and they are SOOOOOO much cheaper than anywhere else. Last week I paid over $7 for four organic peaches at Waldbaums. I paid just 69 cents for each one at TJs!

Re: baby food---earths best or make your own???
I made my own, just steaming or baking everything and pureeing in a food processor. It was really easy once I got into a groove. I would pick one day a week to make a few bathes of fruits and veggies, freeze them in ice cube trays (1 oz each cube), and then transfer to ziploc bags. Just nuked them for 10 seconds and they were ready to serve.

Re: baby food---earths best or make your own???
I used only Earths Best (which I loved!!) with my DS being that I didn't have the convenience of making my own (long story) but with my future children, I will def DEF make my own just bc you save so much $$ but also bc you can adjust texture, consistency, and ingredients. I can't wait for my next! Good luck!

wow that sounds so simple! i bought all Gerber for DD...i was overwhelmed 1st time mom though and couldn't imagine sitting around making her food. Tried other brands too - honestly I read all ingredients and didn't mind anything in them. Just real fruits and veggies and then some seasonings which I was fine with. Maybe I will try the above for my next whenever that may be...that really does sound pretty easy...thanks for the tips!
