Family Basinet
I have a basinet I will be using. It has been used with all of the kids on my fathers side as well as my dad and his brothers. It is 57 years old. I know there are so many new "rules" or "guidelines" you should follow with a newborn but I will be using it either way. We all turned out fine after using it. I just need a new mattress pad for it. What are your thoughts? Would you use it or go out and buy a new one?

Re: Family Basinet
As long as it is secure & can hold the weight, I would def use it. I am HUGE on family traditions, and hand me downs. I have a toddler rocking chair that belonged to my mom, and even though we no longer have a relationship, I plan on giving it to my future DC. My brother and I used it.

Re: Family Basinet
A friend of mine has a similar tradition in her family. The names of all the children and the year they used it is written on the bottom of the bassinet. I thought it was pretty cool when I saw it.

aww I love that! I wonder if my grandmother can stitch that on the skirt she made. That would be a nice addition

I will be using a cradle that has been used by all the babies for the past 45 years. Turns out the mattress is still in amazing shape from my brother, who is 27.

Re: Family Basinet
if youre only using for a newborn, i would def use it! thats a beautiful and important tradition to uphold and congrats to you. its not like it will be getting a lot of wear and tear like what a toddler could do.

Re: Family Basinet
I'm using it. Mine is 33 years old. We have little plaques from Things Remembered on the back of the cradle indicating the baby's name, DOB, weight and length. It's a really nice heirloom.
I did get a new mattress for it though.

Re: Family Basinet
Same situation here. I think my DC will be something like child #18 in it. All of my siblings and I slept in it. Best thing about it.... it's so much bigger than the new ones.

Re: Family Basinet
The bassinet we used for Charlie was also used for my DH, his dad and his dad! So 4 generations...it is close to 100 years old. We're using it for DD#2 also :)

Spoke to my grandma yesterday. She is going to embroider all of the names and birthdays of everyone who has used it!
