Terrible day.
I had a 9:30 appointment for a regular check up at the current gyno. Today, I was supposed to tell them that I will be switching hospitals and OBs.
I waited an HOUR, before they even called me into the back for set up. The nurse asks me to give a sample, and asks the usual "are you burning, itching or hurting?" I tell her I have had some discomfort in the pelvic area when I release and I also noticed a brown discharge yesterday and this morning on my underwear.
I do my business, get weighed (gained 1 pound), and go in the room to wait. The Dr. Comes in pretty soon, tells me to undress from the waste down, she needs to see what's causing the discharge. She takes her instrument and goes up there, and I can swear it felt like I was being devirginized. It HURT. :(
She says to me in an overly concerned voice she needs a sono, there is no sono tech on duty, so she comes back and says "we need to admit you in L&D right now".
Now I'm all in a worried, tearing a little in the confusion because everyone is talking and moving so quickly I think it's something severe. They take me in a private birthing room at St. Catherines and hook me up for monitoring while waiting for the sono. Everything is coming up normal. They take about 2 or 3 pricks to find a vein and hook me to an IV. Why, I really don't know.
They take me to the sono, everything looks fine, baby weighs 1.3 pounds, but the sono was giving me more increased pain. She then does a transvaginal, not all the way up, and again, i thought I was being ripped open, it hurt soooo bad up there! I come back, DH shows up and we wait. Nurse comes in and says my blood work shows I'm anemic and my white cell count is really high. The Dr. comes in and says my placenta's fine, baby's fine, cervix is fine, so they think it's all gastric related and want a renal sonogram. Because of where I'm pointing too for the pain, the want to see if this is related to my appendix. OMG.
So I have to wait longer for this. I can't have anything to eat, and I'm starving at this point. I felt the renal made the pain worse, poking and prodding all around me to check my kidneys and everything else. The first tech can't find the appendix. Second tech comes in, can't find it. Doctor on duty comes in, he can't find it.
They tell me they need call a surgeon over to evaluate me. Now my nerves are working over time.
We wait maybe a half an hour for him, and he comes in, feels around, and because I don't have a load of pain on the right side of my stomach, it can't be my appendix. I have no fever, and I have not vomitted any foods for no reason in the past week. He truly believed it was really bad round ligament pain, that my herniated discs in my back are causing. The discharge was a sign of a yeast infection.
Did I need to spend 9 hours in the hospital for this? Probably not, and I know it's better to be safe then sorry, but I kind of felt they could have not been so forthright like that and worry the heck out of me all day.
LO is fine, bouncing around and kicking, so I feel better.
I just feel tired from being poked, pinched, jabbed, etc.
So glad to be home right now.

Re: Terrible day.
wow...that is a terrible day. I'd be ticked at the way it was handled, too. I'm glad all was ok in the end, but I would feel confident in my decision to switch to another doc after a day like that if I were you!
