Perhaps I should have been a doctor...
Because I am smarter than mine.
Don't know if anyone remembers but I have long cycles (I am day 74 for those keeping track and STILL no AF). Last week I went to the doctor and she didn't think there was any problem except the fact that I need to lose weight. I pushed the issue of testing and she reluctantly agreed. WELL GUESS WHAT....My ultrasound showed that I have bilateral PCOS!! For cryin' out loud, why don't doctor's take patients more seriously?!
Its been a week since I had the ultra sound and she FINALLY called me back today. Our game plan...5 months of trying to lose weight (20 pounds) then if I am still not pregnant doing a few cycles with clomid. If that doesn't work than going to see an RE. It actually works for me. I was going to try and lose weight anyway and I really don't see the reason to rush the pregnancy thing, as much as we want a child right now, it would give us some more time to get some things in order, and I can improve my health. While are are not going to stop TTC we will just take it slowly. However...since I have not gotten my period yet, I think we are going to go the Provera route so that I can ovulate already and then start off fresh. I will be losing weight, drinking my Red Raspberry leaf tea, and am thinking about going to see an acupuncturist (for pain as well as infertility) and we will just see how it goes.
BTW...has anyone ever known anyone who went for acupuncture for infertility and it worked?
Just curious.

Check on the infertility board for the accupuncture. A bunch of the girls over there do it.

The only thing that freaks me out is the clomid thing. My doctor mentions that it could result in multiples and I have had a few people in my family say they thought I would have twins some day...weird. I don't know if I could handle twins but what a blessing that would be.

I'm going through the same thing right now. Just got a definite diagnosis of PCOS yesterday. My doc basically said the same thing...give it a few months and then we can try clomid. He also mentioned the chance of twins is 10%.
I think I have come to terms with the fact that this may be our route to pregnancy. We will see how the next few months go!! Good luck to you!!!!

This is just me, but I wouldnt feel comfortable with that doctor anymore and I'd look for another. Im glad to hear that they got to the bottom of your issue and I hope that the treatment plan works!!!!!!!!
eta are they starting you on metformin?

Don't know...waiting to hear back from the doctor because OF COURSE I forgot to ask her if we were going to do any sort of med to help me ovulate (metaformin or provera). She will call back today or tomorrow. I think its a good idea to do, in conjunction with everything else to try and get my body back on track.

I wonder if it would be something they would consider for me because my blood work was in the normal range although he said it was in the higher end of normal.

AH...I apologize for giving misinformation. I had read that metaformin was taken to help ovulation and I guess I read that wrong. In that case the doctor did not mention Metaformin. My blood tests were actually within normal range and my ultra sound showed the PCOS so I am not sure if Metaformin would help. Or would it? It's all so cloudy.

Its all very confusing. Some girls on here have seen the actual cysts but have perfect bloodwork. Some are vice versa. Everyone's different. The most common thing is to go on metformin but if your bloodwork is clear, i really dont know. Since my bloodwork showed crazy levels and you could see the cysts, that was the treatment plan for me. Everyone's a little different.

Thank you for the information. I have cysts but not the hormone imbalance. I also get my period on my own but I don't always ovulate. My cycles range from 26-30 days when I do O and 37-57 when I don't.
It's crazy that PCOS is the blanket diagnosis for such a wide range of symptoms and variations!

TRUE STATEMENT! I don't have the hormonal imbalances either, but do have the cysts. And up until this cycle I was getting my period on my own. DH is going to be sad when I tell him tonight.

It is hard to hear. I cried...a lot...when I first found out there were issues and DH was very supportive. But I'm dealing better now. I didnt realize how common it was and I am just trying to think positive that it will happen!

So sorry about the diagnosis, but at least you have some answers now and a game plan.
And just an fyi, provera does not force ovulation. It just brings on a bleed. It's basically progesterone. You take it for 5 days and then stop. The stopping of the extra progesterone bring on a bleed a few days later.

Right - but if I didn't actually ovulated and just bled It's only to "fool" my body into thinking its a new cycle. I always thought that a new cycle would be once ovulation is complete and shedding occurs.

That's okay. I appreciate you helping. This whole TTC is very confusing. Why there are people who have problems and those that don't. And those that are diagnosed with the same problems but do not have the same symptoms. What works for some doesn't work for others. All in the quest for us to understand the blessing of conception. *sigh* oh well! Keep on keepin' on
