Baby Name Poll

Okay, I'm having a baby on Monday and I don't have a girl name! We're team green, so I am good with the boys name, but I can't decide on a girl's name. At this point, I think DH will let me pick whatever I want as long as I choose something!!!

If you wouldn't mind taking my poll, I would appreciate it... most of the names are Irish, so I know many of you may not like them as some of them are hard to pronounce due to the spelling, but just curious to see how you all think the names would go over. I ranked them in the order I like them but I really do like them all. DD is Mairead (muh-raid)

Whatever name we pick, the middle name will be Teresa.

DD has a friend named Mairaed and her sisters name is Ailish(Ay-lish)

I love Aine. We had a mommy and me with irish triplets ... The girls were Aine (aun-yah)& Naimh (I cannot spell that, but it always sounds like Maeve or Nave to me) ... honestly, no matter how hard I tried, I could never pronounce the second one correctly even though it sounded pretty when the mom said it.

I like Aoife, but as someone who has a Japanese name, I know that she will have some issues correcting everyone! So maybe Claire or Orla might be easier.

I love the way Aine sounds but I wouldn't have known how to say it if you didn't put the pronunciation (awn-yuh) next to it.
I guess it doesn't really matter because when people ask you her name, you tell them, not spell it - if it is a her

One of my bosses is Irish. His sister's name is Niamh. I took a call from her once and have always thought after that that it's a really beautiful name.

I love them all, they are fantastic names!! I think Niamh is a great name.

I voted for Aileen because I think it flows best with theresa and I think its very pretty !

Gorgeous! I'm not Irish so I'm baffled by the spelling, but I love the spelling and the pronunciation each the same.

I would just hate to give a child the fate of having to explain their name every time they meet someone new. I've had to with my given name, and I seriously resent my parents (well my father) for insisting on it.

The more I look at that name, the more I love it, and I think if I my next is a girl, I might steel that name from you, but I would use the more phonetic spelling.

My boss named her daughter Aoife, and no one knows how to pronounce it. I like Clare the best, but with Theresa, I like Aileen.

Orla (or Orlaith) is one of my FAVORITE names!! I think its absolutely beautiful.

Its Orla for me! Says the lady with the daughter called Imogen.

I think Orla is a really cute little name actually. I could see a cute little girl in pigtails named Orla!

I voted for Clare but I also like Aileen.. I just think the other names will have her constantly having to pronounce her name for everyone

I voted for Clare. I think it's such a pretty name. We considered it too, but someone I know has a DD with that name and I felt weird taking it.

I actually voted for Niamh...yay! However, I like Aileen with Teresa and with your other DD's name.

I voted when you first put up the poll and I've given it some thought since then... I've noticed that of all the families I know who have a child with an Irish/Gaelic name, all their other children have more Anglicized names. For example Fionnuala's siblings are Grace and Gerry; Ailis's siblings are Michael, Ciara and Kenneth and I can name a ton of others that follow suit...interesting observation! In this vein, my childhood friend Sinead (whose siblings are Sandra and Michael ) has three girls and one them is Neve--I guess an Anglicized version of Niamh--nice name too!

Either way good choices...and watch it be a boy!

I knew a Niamh - very sweet girl and I love that name. Most people didn't know how to pronounce her name though - which I think was frustrating for her!
