I am starting to get anxious about hving a c section, I dont want one and am hoping the baby turns, I am scared out of my mind and the thought that I have no choice scares me.

Re: panicing about upcoming c section

Just remember first and foremost, the most important thing is getting the baby out in the safest way possible.

I definitely did not want a c/s and went into it hoping it would not happen. Unfortunately after many hours of labor, a c/s was what had to happen.

The recovery was cruddy, I won't lie about that, but the reward is beyond worth it. The actual c/s was not as bad as I thought it would be, it was afterwards that was tough. The first 2 days are the hardest and then it gets MUCH better from there.

All I can tell you is that as a person who would have done ANYTHING to avoid a c-section, I had to have an emergency section and I survived, panic and all. It s*cked big time (still does at times) but my baby got here safe and sound and that is all I can focus on. After a 40 hour induction, it just had to be. I cried, sobbed, cried some more went in crying and finally just accepted it right before they cut me. The recovery was hard, but not impossible. I think the emotional toll (if you were really hoping for a natural delivery) is harder and totally understandable. Take advantage of knowing ahead of time, ask questions, talk about your feelings with DH, the doctor, the nurses, anyone who is sympathetic and will LISTEN. I know some women poo-poo sections and don't understand your POV, but I understand where you are coming from. I hope your baby turns and you get the delivery you wish for...it can happen!! And if not, you will both be safe and once you have that LO in your arms you'll know it will all be ok. Best of luck!

I hear you; I really don't want a c-section. I keep telling myself it'll only happen if that's what's best for the baby in the end, and that makes me feel better because ultimately, that's all we want is what is best for our babies.

Re: panicing about upcoming c section

when is your c scheduled for?

mine is for june 29th and I'm a nervous wreck with ANY procedure!!
The way i'm dealing with this... is to not think so much about it. I'm trying to put the actual procedure out of my mind as much as I can. I know the day of I will be a complete mess over it. But I also know they will be able to calm me down with drugs... it's the only way to get me to relax.

I'm just kinda taking an as it comes approach.

I'm so sorry.

Mine is July 19th, they may move it up. I feel the same way you do. I am also nervous because I want to EBF. SO I am afraid they will give my kid a bottle and not give me my baby and will my recovery affect my nursing Urghhh. I know I am working myself up and overthinking this. I am sorry for you too,. I will be thinking of you and let us know how it goes. Where are you delivering?

I plan on BFing as well and I did think of this.
But I also realize that IF it were the case that the baby got a bottle for whatever reason... it's OK. The baby can still breast feed after that.
Some babies have a hard time BFing and I just learned of the bait and switch method... so you can get them back on track again.
I know plenty of mom's who had a C section and were able to BF so I'm hoping to be the same way.

I'm delivering at LIJ. What about you??

No advice, just Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon . I had 2, and everything was fine. They let me hold each of my boys in the OR and then as soon as I was settled in recovery, they were brought to me and I was able to try to bf them. I was only away from them after that when they went to the nursery to be checked out by the pediatrician. It is all good once your LO is here safe & sound Chat Icon

Re: panicing about upcoming c section

I too just had my 2nd scheduled c/s. Dont worry. At least for me it was such a smooth event with a great recovery.

And I was able to BF. DS #2 I had them bottle feed him night 1 (as I had my c/s at 9pm and was beyond exhausted) then I did mostly bottle feeding in the hospital (although I did latch him nearly every feeding) by choice. He is now 9 weeks old and he is mainly BF. So dont stress out, because that more than anything can hinder your BFing.

My advice is just to go with the flow. It will be fine either way. I felt great after both my c/s. with DS#1 I didnt take any pain meds stronger than motrin after day #1. DS#2 I took some pain meds in the hospital and hte first 2 nights home, but honestly that was more because I couldn't get comfortable in those darn beds to sleep and the pain meds helped me sleep comfortably! After day #2 home I havent taken anything.

maybe you know this...
but are you on pain meds or anything after the c? do the meds affect your ability to be able to BF in terms of having them in your system and not allowed to have the baby drink the milk??

I've been thinking about this lately.

They give you pain meds (Percoset, I believe), but what they give you either doesn't pass into your milk or colostrum or is safe. Also I think that whether you're BFing or not determines what they give you. I was EBF & was given different meds than my roommate, who was not.

Re: panicing about upcoming c section

Had two sections and July 9th will be my third. Don't worry- it won't hurt your ability to BF! Not related in any way. Even if your baby gets a bottle it won't do anything. Pain meds are safe for nursing. Chat Icon Chat Icon

C-section recoveries are hard but so are some vaginal births. My friend had a 4th degree episiotomy and then next baby had a section and she said the section was way easier! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
