I give my sons organic milk. Daycare, however, gives them regular. To be honest, I've never really looked into bringing in organic milk for them. I guess I'd have to have a doctor's note for that. I'll have to see.
I'd love for them to be on 100% organic foods and I do try to give it when I can....but the expense is high with meats. I do what I can and I feel good about it. We found another local organic farm in our area that we will be visting next week, I can't wait!

For those that are interested, this website can help you find a local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm. Some are organic, others not, but it can be a great, and surprisingly cheap, way to get super fresh produce and farm products.

My dd is only 6 months and not on milk yet. I am not sure what route I will choose yet but...............................I think it should be LIF law that TILDE needs to post on any controversy thread so we can all laugh and stop this nonsense of who sits on a higher mommy throne because their choices are better than someone elses.

I HATE this thread...seriously, I know everyone has their own opinion, but why does everyone have to be so critical. People are laughing at other peoples comments.
I CHOOSE to raise my child on regular milk (dont forget the hormone free) He's MY child and you can think I am a horrible mommy bc I don't do organics. I have learned so much from LIF and I know a bunch of these girls, but everyone raises their children differently, so get over it!

I believe the only person judging was the "I dont' know why anyone wouldn't" comment.... I thought the thread was pretty informative before that comment hit the thread....

I was doing regular milk and then switched over to organic after reading an article and then doing some research on the topic. Get this (if you don't already know):
Due to the insane amount of hormones pumped into cows, girls who drink regular milk as babies/toddlers have been studied and proven to get their periods as early as 7!!!!! This of course means the rest of their bodies develop earlier too, leading to some risks when older and a much earlier menopause! Once I heard this DH ran right to the store! lol

It has nothing to do with my choice to drink organic milk over regular milk which is why I went on to say that amongst other things, I am concerned about antibiotics in milk.
Wow. And I thought I was being un-argumentative and nonjudgemental.
Actually, there are other species that drink another's milk - if you search you tube, you'll find videos of kittens nursing from dogs, etc.
But.... I do give my kids organic. It is important to me. Not just because of the hormones but because of the pesticides.

Even without all the dangerous additives, hormones, antibiotics and iodine used to clean the udders (even with organic varieties), cow milk is SO chock full of fat and cholesterol it is an unhealthy choice for anyone on earth, except for a calf.
I asked my dr about skipping milk and he said after 18-24 month when my DS is a little bigger. .
I agree with everything your wrote - cow's milk is for a calf. I see no need for us to have it at all.
agreed. we go through a lot of almond and hemp. cow's milk lasts forever in my house.
i just don't believe in it's benefits.

Dd 2 gets lactaid, but it's regular whole milk. We buy regular whole milk for us and that is what Amelia drinks too.

. This is by no means a knock at you, I've been drinking whole, non-organic milk my whole life and I got af at 17. Not the norm, but definitely not at 7. I see what you are saying, but I'm just puttin g it out there.

Thanks for the info on the almond milk, not to get off topic or maybe it would be a good thing  but how did your kids react to the taste of almond milk? was it a slow process?
My kids dont drink milk but they do have it in their cereal. I dont drink milk at all - dont take cereal and dont take it in my coffee so not surprised that my kids are not big milk drinkers. I used to drink soy at one point but then that has its controversies too..maybe almond is the way to go!

Just talking about this with dh, and the words "doesn't everybody" came out my mouth. But now, reading this post, i find that not every one does, and not for the same reasons. Love that about LIF. Yall always learn me some new tings. I feel like my horizons broaden and i pop out from a more narrow perspective. I do 't mind the laughi g n pointing, cuz i usually learn something from heated debates.

I gave Emmy regular, but she started her AF and grew breasts at 16 months so it's just organic for us now
 Just trying to lighten the mood. Not trying to disrespect anybody. We do both because unless organic is on sale I just can't spend $6 on a gallon of organic vs $2.24 for regular.

My kids really love the almond milk and took to it right away. It's sweeter and actually has an 'almond-y' flavor - and they like almonds. I did make sure to set them up and tell them that it does NOT taste like regular milk... I think if I'd tried to fool them they would have reacted poorly.
They do not like rice milk nearly as much almond milk. Robbie says it tastes like weird water.
