Between the growth hormones, antibiotics, and whatever else can get into the milk, I don't see why anyone wouldn't do organic for their children considering how much milk they drink per day! It's just not worth the $1 I'd save.....
Because I have drank it all my life and am still alive to tell about it....
Milk is not the same as when you were growing up. They weren't putting growth hormone in it. Children are more susceptible to it which is why there are many children going through early puberty!
Hence why I buy hormone free.
I don't feel the need to go as far as having the cows eat organic feed.
Before you know it we won't be able to eat or drink anything.
It's getting way over the top with all this organic stuff.
And how do we REALLY know what they are selling as organic really is.
How do I know Stop and Shop isn't throwing regular apples in with the so called organic ones and just doubling the price.
I never got that...
Believe me, you can tell when fruit/veggies are organic. They don't last half as long as conventional ones. The apples are also easy to tell apart because they aren't shined up with wax. They also usually have a USDA organic sticker on them. I don't know for sure what Stop and Shop does but I do know for certain when I get things from my local organic farm or CSA that are organic.
Hey M! what local farm do you get stuff from? i would like to start shopping this way!!

that is what will keep our little girls little girls for a longer period.

if someone came to me and said, "o, the amount of olives Luce eats is bad for xyz" I'd say "oh my, I didn't know that" and look it up. I wouldnt just say " well too bad. I eat 60 lbs of olives day and I am fine" b/c that serves NO ONE. least of all my son.
Yeah I have to agree with this.. I truly do not care one bit what you want to give you child.. BUT to say.. Im fine or I dont believe in it... there is scientific proof of what is in the milk and that it CAN be harmful..so to say you dont' believe in it or Im fine.....yes we are all fine thank goodness but the cancer I get in 15 years may have been preventable by taking these steps...or I wouldn't be resistant to my antibiotics or whatever it may be... kwim?
Just saying that we should be at least open to the research to make an informed decision..

I use orgainic milk always! Even though it is a bit more expensive it lasts me longer then reg milk so it is a win win!! totally worth the extra dollar or two IMO

This is a great point and even though,I wasn't going to post anymore on this thread its just  lol ...
But I have one more point.
Humans are the only species that does a lot of things, we are intelligent, we have adapted, most humans have bodies that have physically adapted to drink and process milk. It was survival of the fittest, those that migrated to the middleast and saharas from Africa, had to drink milk or they would have starved and died, these are the Europeans. These are some of our ancestors. Others went to Asia, where the food was different. You'll find a lot of Asians are lactose intolerant for this reason. Their ancestors didn't need to drink it and so they didn't, they ate other things. Things that other animals don't eat probably.

In a perfect world your right, it wouldnt be on the shelves if "they" knew it was harmful...
but things like this (out this week) happen fairly often

Strawberries
Sometimes apples.
The rest, I get regular items.
If I was hard-pressed for money, I'd forgo the organic stuff.

as long as there is a market for it, it will be on the shelves in America.
As long as people want to buy it and do buy it, and don't know any better or any worse or know it all and don't care.

All I said was that *I* thought it was gross when *I* actually thought about it. It made me visualize one species BFing off of another species. There I said it.
It has nothing to do with my choice to drink organic milk over regular milk which is why I went on to say that amongst other things, I am concerned about antibiotics in milk.
Wow. And I thought I was being un-argumentative and nonjudgemental.

I buy regular. I don't buy organic anything unless I like it.

I have been doing a lot of shopping at Makinajian (thought it is $$) and I get an organics box delivered weekly to a co-op (which happens to be at the Huntington Jewish Center).

DS won't be getting milk. That said, to argue like this over MILK is insane!!
IMO as long as you are making an informed decision about what you are putting into your child's body that is all that matters. Research it and learn as much as your can. I think we owe it to our children to do that.
Everyone has different priorities and that is OK. I agree that we should be able to learn from each other but it is hard when people are being snotty.
Unfortunately as far as food goes, it IS us against them. They do not have our best interest in mind, they have their pockets in mind. If we were to use this energy to ban together and stand up to it then I think we could make a huge difference. Our children deserve clean, chemical/hormone free food. We should NOT have to pay extra for it!!!

When I do the shopping, I buy organic milk... but my DH buys regular - do I love our kids more?
BUT I work more and DH gets to spend more time with them so, does he love our kids more?
Honestly, I would have to know how long your child sat rear facing in the car seat to truly answer this question.

it is very very true, and it IS on our shelves.
deanna I am not trying to be an ******* AT ALL but if you just research things like BPA and the bovine industry..the chicken industry...everthing....it's out there. slapping us in the face.
I can understand if you don't believe in the certification process (after all, the FDA does a pretty ****** job certifying regular foods) but there are more and more links to certain diseases and obesity b/c of what is going into our food, and the animals that produce it.

WOW! Obviously all of us want want is safest, and best for our little ones.
Perhaps now, people will switch. Perhaps they won't. I like to buy organic, and usually do, but have bought regular here and there as well. I don't really have a preference. I do think (FOR ME) that regular whole milk tastes better than organic, but that is just me. DS has never noticed the difference.
I think the regular milk buyers, need t realize that though many mommies serve organic milk, they may be doing something else that they wouldn't dream of. Its all relative. I worked with someone who only gives organic, but smoked while she was preggo. Just saying...you never know!
Do your own research, and then decide what's best for your family!

DD isn't on milk yet (still nothing but BM and water), but when she's ready, we'll do organic.
For us though, we are big milk drinkers. We only purchase hormone free milk (regular). We get it at BJs or Trader Joe's. Find that it's cheapest at those places. Once DD starts though, we'll probably only buy the organic for all three of us.
We are participating in an organic farm share this summer, so get all of our veggies and fruits through them. We try to get organic meats as well, but its hard since it's very expensive. To date, all of dd's food has been organic, though now that I think of it, I don't think her cereal is.

We were using organic milk and DS was having issues. We had to switch to Lactaid. I searched high and low for lactose-free organic whole milk and it doesn't exist. I even questioned my ped if we could go to 2% lactose-free organic and he said no - that the fat was more important for DS right now. I think I'm going to try to wean him back onto regular organic milk in the next few weeks and hope he is ok with it!
