High Anxiety Over Nursery (long, sorry) **UPDATE**

So since I was about 8 weeks I have been trying to plan out the nursery. First I wanted to do a chair rail and paint 2 neutral colors (like a tan and green) because we are team Chat Icon and add a closet back into the room (previous owners took it out) But every time it cam up, DH said that he wanted the room to be gender specific and we didn't need a closest for the room...really???? SChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

To do this, we would have to wait until the baby is born to paint and decorate the room which made me twitch. I then had to poll random BTDT moms in front of him to let him understand how we NEED a closet in the nursery. This gave me the shakes because I wanted it done before my shower. DH also said he wanted wainscoting. At first I wasn't into it, I wanted a chair rail...but then I saw a pic that another member posted of her nursery with the wainscoting and fell in love! So I gave in to the wainscoting.

Which brings us to today. I am 29 weeks (my shower is in 2 weeks). We got the word that the closet will be worked on tomorrow, so off we go to Lowes to get the wainscoting and molding. This is when in the middle of the store DH thinks that a chair rail would be best Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
WHAT!?!?!? Now he puts doubts in my mind over it and I can't make a decision. Feeling completely overwhelmed, I cry in the middle of Lowes.

It really doesn't sound like a reason to want to strangle him, but I can't take another minute of his flip flopping and or irrational ideas ( like not having a closet in the nursery or adding a linen sized closet into the room). Grrrrrrr.....
If you lasted this long thanks - just needed to get it out.

***UPDATE***
So happy to update - we now have a nursery with wainscoting AND a closet. Our family contractor spent the day doing the work...I will try to post pics.

IMO both the wainscotting and the chair rail will be nice.

BUT in your specific situation I think the wainscoting would be easier for you because then you don't have to worry about picking 2 colors and painting so much after the baby comes, since your DH wants it gender specific.

If you do the wainscoting you can have the bottom white... paint the top beige or a light color and then when baby comes along you can repaint the top part.

It would be a lot less work in the end since you have half the paint to pick out and to actually paint.

As far as the closet goes... I'm torn on this. I would LOVE to have a closet in my nursery but that's just not feasible in my apt. We live in a 100 yr old 2 family home where the apartments were made to be used in anyway... basically any room could be a living room or a bedroom, etc. There's a name for this set up but I can't think of it now. So odd rooms have closets and other's don't. Since we don't have a closet in our bedroom, the nursery does but DH needs that closet for him (luckily for me there is a small room off of our room and I use it as a whole closet room). so longwinded but the moral is.. our baby girl will not have a closet. So I can't say it's absolutely necessary or not to have a closet since we won't be having one. It's definitely a luxury.

If you own the home and want to build on the closet that would add value to your home. But if you don't have the time or energy or patience at this point you could always just buy a free standing closet unit for now.

That's my input to try to help you.

It will all be OK and work out in the end and your nursery will be beautiful no matter if you have wainscoting or a chair rail... if it's gender neutral or specific of if you have a closet or not. baby stuff is just always adorable!!!
Good Luck!!! Can't wait to see what you decide!

I have wainscotting with a chair rail in DD's nursery and we love it. My DH started this project, along with crown moldings, after I was 30+ weeks. Don't worry, it will all get done. Fight for that closet though - you absolutely need that!

Thanks! DH is going to prime it this weekend...I like how the green looks but we agreed for it to be gender specific and since we are Chat Icon he will paint after the baby is born....I think a powder blue or powder pink will look amazing!

Thanks Katie! We love Andre - we lucked out because he is doing MIL's bathroom so we stole some time from her ;) I really like the green too, but DH is kinda set with gender specific, but he's apparently a flip flopper so we'll see Chat Icon
