Keratin
I feel terrible even thinking about wanting to do a keratin treatment but I'm HATING my hair getting frizzy and curly again...
Has anyone had a Keratin treatment (the "non" formaldehyde one") while pregnant?
I will wait until after I have the baby in November but was wondering if anyone had it done and if anyone knows what the danger is of having it?

Re: Keratin
I had an appt made for a month after I got my BFP, i cancelled it right away. Not sure about the formaldehyde free one though. I know how you feel though, I was so upset that I had to cancel the appt. Check with your dr to be sure.

Re: Keratin
My hairdresser told me when I was preggo that there is not ANY safe keratin treatment while pregnant. Believe me, I needed/wanted it so badly lol

Oh no! I was trying to be patient for November. Now I will have to wait even longer!
I see lots of pony tails in my future this summer!

Re: Keratin
I've read up on it. The "formaldahyde-free" keratin treatments are only formaldahyde-free at room temperature; once you heat them up they break down and release formaldahyde. That's the only way to smooth and de-frizz the hair.
If a product truly is formaldahyde-free (all botanical, etc) then it just doesn't work. Formaldahyde is really the only way to get your hair the way you want. I know it stinks, but it just isn't safe. It isn't safe for a non-preggo, honestly! But that's another story.

Re: Keratin
Keratin is not safe while PG or BFing. My SIL is a hairdresser and the other day I told her to have the stuff on order so she could do mine after the baby is born. I was so crushed when she said I couldn't while BFing.

I'm in the same boat! If I knew I was going to get PG so quickly I would have done it before! Looks like I'm waiting until next year too!

This is so true. My mother is a hair dresser and there really is no such thing as a formaldahyde free formula. The ones that advertise to be that way are simply using a generic form. Without the formaldehyde they wouldn't work.
I have been dreading this humidity bc I have thick curly hair that is so hard to keep straight when the heat strikes. Im due in a few weeks so I might try "mane tamer" after LOs arrival. Its more of a relaxer that makes your hair manageable but not as intense as the keratin. And it washes out at the salon so it doesn't sit in your hair for day. Ill probably pump and dump that day.

Re: Keratin
Beware, there are no true "non-formaldehyde" ones. They all contain formaldehyde or something that is renames or another form of formaldehyde. Even the Brazilian blow-out contains that other form and is actually worse for you than the regular. When my hairdreser was BFing, they had to put her in a different room to work when they were doing brazilians.

Re: Keratin
I was wondering if these treatments work? I know that was not the original question but I was thinking about getting this done and Ive been afraid that my hair would fall out! lol I already had my LO and im not bfing - so would you ladies reccommend this treatment and will it make really curly hair straight?
Sorry for getting off topic!

Yes they work. I have had it done several times. Nothing has ever made my hair pin straight when it air dries, BUT it is about a 90% improvement!

The only thing that makes by hair pin straight is getting the Japanese Straightening done. There is a place in the city that I go to, but haven't done it in 2 years now. Last year I had the Brazilian done, but it's not as great as the Japanese. I wouldn't recommend doing either during pregnancy.

Re: Keratin
"non" still has the fomolyhyde in it, its just below 2% which is the FDA standard for reporting fomolyhyde. so No you should not get it done.
