Where else to look for a crib?
We're getting a really nice dresser/changing table and armoire from a friend. It's Pottery Barn Kids and I'm happy to have it. The problem is, it's "natural" colored wood, which is very "out" right now. We've checked BBB, and they have only one or 2 cribs in that color, but we don't like them. At BRU, they only have one that's not rated an "F" in Baby Bargains for quality, and I don't really like it either. At Behr's there were two that were okay, but they were over $700 each, and I don't want to pay that much for something that I only kind of like.
Only 5 cribs to choose from! That's ridiculous! There are lots more online but I really want to see the crib before I buy it... any ideas where else to go?

Bellini's We purchased our furniture & crib there. Love it. But they are kind of pricey but well built.

Re: Where else to look for a crib?
also, what about having it refinished? not sure if your DH is handy but it wouldn only take a light sanding to take the top finish off and you could stain it darker or paint it and put a clear coat on it?
Also, your furniture doesn't have to match the crib
you can also do a metal crib that way it doesn't look "matched"

Thanks for all your ideas. DH isn't too handy, so refinishing is kind of out. We were wondering how a white crib would go with the natural wood; probably better than cherry or espresso.
Does JC Penney have baby furniture on display? I thought it was only online.

not sure if its on display or not, I haven't looked there.
If your DH isn't maybe your dad or his? its soooo easy to do. you would just go to home depot or lowes and buy 100 grit sanding paper and just sand off the finish. to stain it I could send you very easy to follow instructions. if you don't like the light color, its so worth doing this.
But if its totally out you can do a white crib, or again a metal crib

The problem is that I NEED a light color. I can't do an espresso or a cherry - I have to have a "natural" or a "maple." Sorry I misunderstood you before - there's no way to sand the color off of an espresso-colored crib and turn it 10 shades lighter, right? I wish.
Any other suggestions? Do any of the furniture places on 110 or Glen Cove Road have baby stuff?

I meant the reverse. sand the already light furniture and stain it darker. then go with whatever crib you want

Re: Where else to look for a crib?
We got DS' crib from JCPenney. They do not have cribs in store. I was nervous about ordering online, sight unseen, but I read the reviews and we got a REALLY great crib for a great price. I would just suggest you read the reviews!
