Talk to me about Short term disability?
I have been put on bedrest and know nothing about it.

you have to apply for it (get the forms from your employer, or NYSIF website if that is their carrier) you and your dr have to fill them out, and give back to your employer to fill out and the employer sends them in.
its max term is 26 weeks
it pays I think $187 a week max
if you have life insurance, contact them. sometimes they have a short term disability plan as well
Some, very few employers, will pay your full salary while on disabilty and then you sing over the checks you recieve to them. this is totally legal.

my company pays full pay for 6 weeks...the first 5 days comes out of my own personal time and the ssd pays the other 5. after those 6 weeks are up and you still need the ssd its 65% of your pay

i was on it last year. it's about 187 a week but then taxes are applied so it's like 150 a week.
My employer pays for up to 6 months....
in regards to the checks though... they just deducted that amount from my paychecks. I didn't have to actually sign over the checks to the employer.

I am a p/t county employee. I looked briefly at the NYSIF link on another post and it says government workers do not qualify.

Short term you pay into through your employer. NYS Disability is through the state and you get $170/week.

Part time workers don't always qualify. If you do I believe you get less then the max but your hr dept would be able to get you the forms. all workers have to be covered by disability ins but it doesnt have to be with nysif. call your hr dept
