Best baby carriers?

Which would you recommend?

My friend gave me a Moby wrap which she loves. It looks awesome, but I'm nervous I will do it wrong!

What other carriers and slings do you recommend?

Re: Best baby carriers?

No experience yet, but I'm registering for a Moby and an Ergo for when they are a little older.

Re: Best baby carriers?

I have the moby and took a few tries to get it, but now I love it. I also have an ergo- my husband likes the Ergo, but the waist support annoys him a bit, he uses it with the infant insert and the baby seems to like it. If you plan on having your husband use it I'd bring him to try them on because I didn't take into account that we obviously have different bodies and things I like (the waistband) he doesn't love.

The Moby wrap is awesome!! It's so light and comfortable for both you and baby. I wore my son in it for hours at a time and had no strain on my back or anything. And there are so many different holds! It is definitely intimidating at first because it is so much fabric! What I did is looked up instructional videos on YouTube and practiced while watching them. It just takes a few run throughs and then you'll have it and it's like second nature!

Re: Best baby carriers?

I got the moby from a friend for a shower gift and I like it but I don't love it. It's a LOT of material and it's really really hot when I wear it. It wasn't hard to figure out or anything -- I just watched a few videos online and got it pretty quick. I do like how many positions you can put the baby in.

I have a baby bjorn we got from a friend and it's super simple to use, but it definitely hurts your back after a short time. I carried my niece around NYC for an entire day in it when she was 9 months old and my back hurt so bad for about a week after. DD is only 14 lbs but it still doesn't feel great to use the bjorn.

I bought a Baby K'tan about two weeks ago and I LOVE it. A zillion times more than the moby!! It's way easier to put on and has a lot less fabric. They also make one that's white and mesh so it's much more breathable (I got a pink one on clearance, though, because I wanted one THAT DAY -- DD was being fussy and I couldn't deal with carrying her around anymore in my arms because I had way too much to do... I slapped it on, threw her in, and she was happy for hours). So I'm a baby k'tan fan now. Chat Icon

Honestly, I think some of it depends on the child. I was at a wedding in Chicago last week where a mom (and dad) were carrying their LO around in an Ergo and she was pretty content most of the time. Looks great for the back, too. They also had a piece that kinda looks like a shade/cover that was really good for when the baby fell asleep. DD has never been able to sleep in a carrier, though. Every baby is different.
