More advice to new Momma's...again if you don't mind!!!!

Crashing again...I know I heard this a million times and you probably have too, but get your rest now!!! The first few months are really hard because you are mentally, physically and emotionally drained and can't even help it. Of course it is all worth it, but just know that your life is about to change BIG time!

Also, as excited as you are to meet your DC, let him/her sleep in the nursery during your stay in the hospital!!! I was on the fence about this and realized that I had her almost the entire day so going there to sleep wouldn't be so bad....I'm so glad I did...that was the last time I got a good night's sleep and it has been a year and 1 day LOL

You can't tell preggos to "rest now", it's not the kind thing you can appreciate until after you have the baby Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I also had my kids sleep in the nursery at night. And I was so happy I did, when my son was born he stopped breathing in the middle of the night and I have no idea if I would ever have realized it if he was in the room with me, when I was asleepChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Couldn't agree more. Too bad I'm at that part of the 3rd trimester that I just can't sleep long periods of time. Chat Icon

Totally agree about the hospital. Don't let people bully you and say, "You gotta get used to the baby and being up for feedings, blah blah blah".
Yeah Chat Icon......at home your not woken up 2x a night by nurses and you are more comfy in your own bed. You just gave birth and some might have had to have a csection.....Rest at night! You are going to need it!!! That is why the nursery is there!! Take advantage of it and recover!

Hmmm it's the complete opposite for me. I actually sleep more now than I did while I was pregnant. So you never know what kind of baby you'll have or how things turn out!!!

I agree about sleeping in the nursery-- you have the rest of their lives to spend sleepless nights-- get rest while you an and need to recuperate!

The pediatrician told me at about 6 am when they came after doing his first checkup. I don't think it registered, but I remember then saying that he had stopped breathing, they didn't know why, he turned blue but they were able to get him breathing again.

The ped also said that it wasn't for long and that everything seemed okay-but it all seemed so surreal at the time I just didn't understand it and the ped (a different one, not ours) was so calm about it, like it was almost routine, it was so weird.

I agree with the no banking sleep thing... It's nice in theory to say "rest while you can" but even if you rest 23 out of 24 hours a day until you give birth you are still going to get exhausted once the newborn comes!

I don't mean to sound like a jerk b/c I know you're only trying to be kind but I always found this advice so annoying for the above reason.

I actually agree with this.

You can't catch up on lost sleep and you can't bank sleep. Sleep lost is sleep lost.

Sleeping more now won't make you less tired when the baby comes.

And yes... I always found this advice annoying as well. it's one of those comments that you tend to always hear too. And each time I usually just roll my eyes.

I guess my opinion differs because I was awke constantly when I was pregnant for all the various pregnancy reasons lol and yes the first month or two after dd was born I was tired but not sleeping at the end oif the pregnancy helped me by not being in complete shock and exhaustion when she came

And also since 3 months she has sttn 8pm-7am and I sleep like a baby. So its not as bad as some people make it sound. Enjoy your pregnancy girls Chat Icon

i think it is rather good advice despite ...i don't think the OP was saying bank your sleep....i think it was meant more like ENJOY your sleep or rest at least. one of the hardest adjustments for me as a new mom was the fact that i no longer had the luxury (pregnant or not!) to just lie there and not worry about HAVING to get up multiple times a night.
it takes it's toll big time and good thing it is temporary b/c man is it tough. wish i had been better prepared.
