You ever have that one space that makes you

draw a complete and utter blank??? That is where I am with Teddy's room. I really wanted to paint it Navy with pure white accents (ie curtains, doors, and moldings.) But I am thinking it will be way to dark. I want to do a vintage antique train feel with plain bedding and accents around it. But then I think maybe planes...maybe cars...and I am in circles again. SOMEONE HELP

DS has From the Department of Motor Vehicles Quilt and Sham from the Land of Nod.
With this wall art from TargetTransportation Oopsy Daisy. It is made by the same artist that made the LON bedding. Target also has some smaller pieces of art in the same set. However my cousin is an acclaimed artist and she made a 3D artwork of a boat and light house so I have that up instead.

He also has the Tommy Hilfigger Union Stars sheets and some plain blue ones as well.

The walls are Navajo White by Benjamin Moore. I made the curtains - they are a white hem stitch and then I added a green stripe that matched the green in the bedding.

Yea but Melissa won't this make the space seem smaller? The furniture going in his room is his dresser, and bed. but he has dark cherry furniture. I just feel lost on this room.

We actually have the sheets and lamp that go with that now. I am going to be changing both. If you want the lamp let me know, also thanks for the ideas. I am thinking of doing the star quilt from pottery barn, and a plaid duvet cover. Just because they are plain and simple and I can decorate around them.

What about doing navy walls but adding white wainscoting to the bottom half of the room? That would brighten it up a bit... not too hard to install/paint and inexpensive too. Or just doing a white chair rail with a lighter color on top (light blue or khaki or off white, etc)?

I was also going to suggest only doing half the wall blue. Or do it as an accent wall.

Thanks for the generous offer. There is a lamp? I would love to see it - could you post a pic?

Re: You ever have that one space that makes you

How about 3 walls blue and 1 white? or two and two? Our dining room has 3 navy walls and 1 white wall and I think the white brightens the whole room up.

Just a though! ;)

I really like the idea of wainscoting or an accent wall. I love the way navy/white with red accents look...very vintage Americana

Totally know what you mean, though. We have a pretty big foyer and I have no idea how I'm going to decorate it.

Re: You ever have that one space that makes you

I was having the same debate with myself over decorating Landon's room... same debate light vs dark colors, and same debate trains vs plans vs trucks... I ended up doing a gray/blue with a tan accent wall. The furniture is dark wood. I went with Transportation decor. So we have a big bi-plane framed print, a large plane decal over the bed, old fasioned tin signs above dresser (tractor, motorcycle, fire truck, truck), a big "route 66" sign, and 2 old fashioned tin planes hanging from the ceiling. we did colorful bedding to tie it all together. (PBK Madras)
I absolutely LOVE his room.

If you do decide to stick with navy, The white wainscoating on the bottom with surely brighten up the room.

Re: You ever have that one space that makes you

We just did my DS's room (3) and I was having the same debate. Ultimately we did a nautical theme with his main wall in BM Hale Navy and the other three walls in BM Crisp Khaki.

He has red curtains, a (painted) red headboard and the Tommy Hilfiger comforter below. His furniture (dresser, toy chest, side table) is cherry.

For wall decoration I found a red nautical-esque wall clock at target for $25, an antique oar for over his bed (~$40 I think), a bright white wall shelf with coat hangers that has his red robe and some pics (to come) on it and the art below on a canvas. We also purchased a decal that matches the stripe in his comforter exactly - that will go across the blue wall.

comforter (just the standard sham with the white edging - no star pillow or anything like that)

It's the lamp from the art pieces target not Land Of Nod! If you still want to see pics let me know. I realized I didn't elaborate and wanted to make sure we were on the same page.
