Epidurals

For you ladies who have done it already .....i am a huge baby when it comes to pain....my family joked my whole first trimester about how i am gnu to be able to have the baby ...hopefully when the times comes ill sneeze and she would just be here ( fat chance)

Anyway i was pretty good and not really thinking about it but now im 31 weeks and have like 1 cm left of my cervix home on bed rest nervous it can go at any time and my wayer will break.....i never got to go to the Lamaze classes they day i was supposed to i was in the hospital for a lil more then a week for early contractions....basially my questions is for those of you who have had one is it really painful i know most people sy the contractions feel way worse then the epi ....i feel like i wont be able to do a natural childbirth but im really scared to get the epi...im sure when the pain is kicked in i won't even think twice ...i just want to know what im in for.
I like an idiot googles epidurals and read many miked things about people posting horror stories about it and others swearing by them but I'd rather hear from you ladies then some random google posts.

Thank you for reading ....like i said im on bed rest and have plenty of time to think if things now unfortunalty .

Re: Epidurals

Honestly the Epidural was NOTHING, especially compared to labor (contractions) you will be begging for it and once you get it....ahhhhhhhh

I too am so afraid of needles and by the time I was able to get the Epi I was begging for it

Re: Epidurals

I promise, you will want one so bad from the contractions you couldnt care less if they told you part of the procedure to administer the epi is to cut off your arm, youll just be like....thats fine, do what youve got to do.

But seriously, like youve been told, contractions are WAY more painful and is the epi the most pleasant thing......no, but its really not that painful.

Re: Epidurals

I didn't find labor that bad or painful. It hurt, but no worse than really bad stomach cramps, plus it came and went. Delivery, however, hurt like crazy.

I'm still glad I didn't get an epi. My whole L&D was 6 1/2 hours (1 1/2 pushing, though -- ugh!!!)... I think it would've been way longer with the epidural.

I actually walked out during my birthing class when they showed the video of the epidural. I knew I wanted it, no matter what but I DON'T do well with needles, so I didn't want to see how it's done, what it looks like nothing . . I didn't need the details!

I was never so thankful for a shot in my life & in all honesty, it was nothing.

Re: Epidurals

I was terrified of getting an epi but I kept an open mind when going to the hospital and around 7cm I just needed it and it was so nothing. I don't even remember feeling any pain when he put it in. Randomly what's been annoying is getting all the tape residue off my back from what they used to keep it in place.

I think the best thing to do is go in with an open mind there will either come a point where you are like I need it now or I m fine without it.

Ditto

I am FRESH from the hospital and having just experienced this 5 days ago. Chat Icon

I was not a fan of the idea of an epidural because everyone in my family has had long lasting negative side effects. I was trying my best to go drug free. But unfortunately my progress stalled and pitocin was needed....and let me tell you...pitocin was made by the DEVIL. Chat Icon

The contractions came right on top of each other and they were PAIN. I managed to last 9 hours of labor without it...but caved eventually. I was terrified of getting the needle but at that point I was in agony that I had to get over it.

The anesthesiologist was wonderful and the first pinch was not even close to what my mind thought it would be. Once I realized it wasn't so bad, the next couple of numbing stings were like a symphony of awesome because I knew I was going to be pain free soon!

Re: Epidurals

Its really NOTHING compared to the labor pains. I was trying to go natural but I had the worst back labor!! The first needle didnt really hurt much ( thats the one that numbs the spot). The second was weird.... didnt hurt but it felt weird almost like they were sticking the needle in and the spot was hollow. Weird I know LOL but thats they best way I can describe it.

Re: Epidurals

It is the most amazing thing in the world. The contractions and back labor were so horrific, I was dying for the epi. I dont have a prob with needles to begin with, so I wasnt worried at all. There really was zero pain associated with it. Never even felt it go in.

Re: Epidurals

the pain will be so bad from the contractions, you wont care if the EPI hurts even alittle..
with my first, it didnt hurt at all getting it. the second, it did hurt and i had a lot of pressure...but the pain was no where near the pain of contractions.

Re: Epidurals

I am a partial horror story.

I went in knowing I wanted one and I would get one, I am also awful with pain and was terrified of vaginal delivery all together.

I found as far as L&D go....ignorance is bliss...the less you know, the better. I spent months talking to my Mommy friends, asking them to tell me every detail of their delivery and recovery....and really...none of it applied to me!

At 36 weeks I was ready to ask for a C-Section I was so terrified of L&D...Lamaze helped ease my fears completely.

If you want to know my horror story, I'll tell you, but in the end I got an epidural done again and had the delivery I wanted. I only pushed for 20 minutes.

The one thing I will tell you...the second the baby comes out...your pains DO go away. The second my DD came out, my heartburn even went away! I was eating dinner less than an hour after her birth!!

You'll do great!
