When do lawn clippings get collected?
So for the three years we've been married and living in our house we've never had to dispose of our lawn clippings b/c we live next to an emtpy, overgrown lot and would just dump them there. Easy for us, didn't waste bags....win,win. Now they are building next door so we cant do that anymore. So I know this may sound dumb but when do grass clippings get collected? It says that brush gets collected every other week but they specifically say no grass. So does it go out with the garbage? Im confused. TIA!

Grass is not taken in many LI towns. Strange but true. You either have to compost it or I think the dump will take it for a fee.

What town are you in?
In the Town of Islip, you have to go to the dump by the Ronkonkoma train station and dump them. Pain in the a$$ but they dont take them with the regular garbage. My DH mows the lawn early on Sat morning then goes to dump the clippings.

They don't take them in the town of Smithtown. You're supposed to mulch them back into your lawn, which helps everyone.
All other yard waste is supposed to be once every 2 weeks "or so". That was the answer I got last year when my tree/shrub clippings sat on the curb for weeks.

Im in Town of Brookhaven.
Is this something new that they dont pick up the clippings? B/c I know my parents, who are in the same town, would always put the bags by the curb and they got picked up. I dont know by who though lol.

Call your town, I*m in babylon and ours gets picked up every Fri during the warmer months.

Town of Huntington doesn't take them.. however before I looked for that info, I had bagged some in a black bag mixed with some shrub clippings & they took those.. maybe depends on their mood?
It is better to mulch it back into your lawn, but sometimes if you get it let too long, there's too much of it & it leaves big ugly clumps

I don't believe that Town of Brookhaven picks up grass clippings, you are supposed to mulch or bring them to the dump.
That being said, if you put them in a black bag and leave them with other stuff at the curb, it could get picked up.
I've had garbagemen who tore a bag open to see what was in it and left the bag of grass - others don't care and throw it in the truck.

leaving it on the ground is best.
huntington doesn't pick up, but I think they charge $1-2 if you want to bring them to the dump

I agree-we insist our landscaper mulch mow. It returns the nutrients to the soil. As long as the lawn is mowed regularly, the clippings are not too big to be visible. and you don't have to worry about paying the town to dump it!
