Re: starting to pack my hospital bag...

I am looking to pack yoga pants, casual, comfortable, for day wear, don't want to hang in my pjs all day with visitors.

I remember with DD 2 years ago - I was most comfy in yoga pants, tanks and robe/lose sweater.... layers.

flip flops for shower
chargers for phones/cameras
pads - although hospital will supply, I remember I preferred the thinner heavy duty ones, rather than the super enormous ones.
slippers too

all your toiletries
music
any needed paperwork??

for baby, I would bring only the take home outfit and infant seat on the day of take home - everything else they supply.....

Re: starting to pack my hospital bag...

I'm in the hospital right now , hoping to go home today. Let me just tell you, LESS is more. Do not overpack!!!

I kept the items to a minimum and so glad I did. You can bring the take home outfit for your LO, but really you don't need much else. The baby stays in hospital issued items the whole time.

I didn't bother with makeup items except a little concealer and foundation. They give you toiletries too so I didn't care to bring all kinds of bathroom items.

More than anything bring an empty bag to take home giftsand goodies from the hospital! People have come and been so generous with gifts for the baby. Plus there are so many good things they can give you that you should take gladly.

This was my bag:
Nursing camis
Nursing bras
Slippers
Yoga pants
Deodorant
Tooth brush
Hair ties
Brush
Always thin maxis (the ones in hospital are big thick maxi pads and I'm not a fan of those after the first day)

Boppy pillow
Take home outfit

iPad/iPod & charger
Cell Phone &charger
Camera charger
Id and insurance cards

Some people like to do snacks, magazines, and what not, but people will gladly want to bring you stuff when they visit, so I didn't bring any of that. Plus I'm on a restricted diet and could only eat what the hospital provided.

I brought a robe and used it only to walk from shower down hall to my room... If you want to get dressed in the shower/bathroom, you dont need it!
(or if you have your own shower in your room) :)

Re: starting to pack my hospital bag...

Oh yeah I did bring a robe - but only used it one time. The only reason I used it was because my baby was in NICU and one time I ran out of nursing camis (since I was in unexpectedly in hospital for 5 days) and I had to walk to the NICU to BF her. I didn't want to have to lift my whole top up to feed, so I wore my yoga pants and then just the robe to open it up to feed.

I think a robe is a waste to bring. After you deliver and are off an IV, you can wear your regular jammies.

Re: starting to pack my hospital bag...

since i delivered very early i had no hospital bag. from my experience, this is what i wish i had:

- VERY comfy not tight clothes for after delivery - ESP if you have CS, you wont want ANYTHING near the incision, so very loose pants and shirts
-shower flip flops and everything you need to shower and get dressed
-any phone chargers/cameras/laptops/ipad communication things that are necessities to you
-any breastfeeding supplies you may have

what you really dont need:
-pads - the hospital supplies them unless you reallllly have a preference - but its a war zone down there so honestly youll want to use the ones they give you - including the GIANT sized weewee pads...
-unnecessary amounts of clothing for yourself, just bring the most comfy things you own and a going home outfit for yourself
-your own breast pump - for ladies that plan to pump from the beginning your own pump wont be strong enough to create and maintain a milk supply - you will need to use the hospital grade ones for this - i delivered at LIJ and they provide the parts for us and you can use their pump - once you leave you will need to rent a hospital grade one if you plan to pump A LOT at the beginning
