Re: minnesota

I grew up there! Love Minnesota, there's a ton of stuff to do.

Minneapolis
- see a show at the Guthrie Theater
- watch Twins at Target Field
- St. Anthony Main Eat and drink here. Pracna has a great beer selection. Great food at all them. They also have horse drawn carriages from Nicollet Island Inn (great boutique inn with a good restaurant - DH proposed to me here Chat Icon ). Also great scenery and parks, walking paths abound. You could walk from here across the river to Guthrie.

- Nye's Polonaise is a must-see in the evening and is a short walk up Hennepin from St. Anthony Main.

- Downtown area: Hard Rock Cafe, Target Center, State Theater, First Avenue, bars along First Ave There's a restaurant called Fogo de Chao that my friends rave about. Check City Pages for events and restaurants.

South Mpls
- take a walk at Minnehaha Falls

Uptown Mpls
- walk around, lots of shops and restaurants (Chino Latino is a fave)
- take a walk around Lake Calhoun (and Lake of the Isles if you're feeling ambitious, the latter is prettier). Beautiful houses, lovely scenery. You can rent a bike or kayak too.
- see a concert at Lake Harriet bandshell (www.minneapolisparks.org)

Suburbs
- take a boat cruise on Lake Minnetonka Al & Alma's offers dinner/brunch cruises. Alternatively, you could head to the Hudson area and take a boat cruise down the St. Croix, also visit Stillwater and Hudson, WI while over there.

- Valleyfair in Shakopee - amusement park. It's fun, not cheesy or hokey. They also have a twilight admission, which is perfect for adults who just want to ride some thrill rides and eat some fair food.

- Minnesota Zoo (Apple Valley) GREAT zoo.

Remember, clothes are tax free in MN, so save your shopping for Mall of America if you want to save a few dollars.

Let me know if there is anything else you're looking for. Have fun!

The suburbs stuff wouldn't be convenient (like the boat cruise, Valleyfair or the Zoo) although your hotel might offer shuttles to there.

You will have to take a cab or bus from the train station to Uptown. You could walk to Nicollet Island/St. Anthony Main from the station but it is a little jaunt but a pretty walk over the river. Everything else should be right there - Target Field, Guthrie, Nicollet Ave, Sculpture Gardens (I don't recall it being that far anyway) etc. Metro Transit Check the Metro Transit guides. I've never actually taken the train since it opened after we moved to NY but my stepmom takes it to Twins Games and the Guthrie from the mall all the time.

Near the Sculpture Gardens is a restaurant call La Belle Vie. It's French, pricey but very good. DH and I celebrated our anniversary there last October. We did the tasting menu, which was excellent but next time, I'm going to try the Lounge menu and some more of the fun drinks in the Lounge (my paranormal romance is the name of one). I have ADD when it comes to sitting down for so long for the tasting menu. Chat Icon Also, Cafe and Bar Lurcat is nearby (Loring Park). I never ate there but have had drinks there. They have outdoor seating so it may be fun for a refreshment on the patio after the Sculpture Gardens. Also, you could catch a bus South to Uptown and spend time there and Lake Calhoun.

Nicollet Island Inn is American and is very good too. Beautiful scenery, romantic setting and the horse drawn carriage too. I'd recommend it for an anniversary dinner as well! And then afterward, you can get a drink at one of the pubs on St. Anthony Main or at Nye's.

Other restaurants:
112 Eatery = I've heard is very good.

Brit's Pub (off Nicollet Ave downtown) is fun for pints. They also have lawn bowling on the roof. It's a great casual place.

I don't have that many recs for restaurants but I can ask DH (he stays in downtown Mpls when he's back for work) for recs if you want.

Other notes:
Try Walleye if you've never had it. It's one of my fave fish.
Soda is "pop", so when someone asks you what kind of pop you want. Chat Icon
