can an induction be successful prior to 36w?

since chances are i will deliver in the next 3-4 weeks (at 32w6d my doctor thinks a week to 10 days Chat Icon Chat Icon ) i am wondering if i should bother considering induction. the doctor said its not a decision we have to make now although if its sooner rather than later it will likely be a c-section.

has anyone here had experience with induction prior to 36w?
is it even possible?
is it worth it to even consider vaginal birth or should i just make the assumption that im going to have a c-section at this point if i have to be delivered early?
this is assuming that i have to deliver due to preeclampsia and not preterm labor or anything that happens on its own.

TIA!

hmm... if I were you I would just start getting my mind prepared for a C section.

If the dr says you can be induced and they can try a vaginal then I say go for it. But I'd still have my mind prepared for if a C should occur, since it's probably likely.

Good Luck with everything! I just read what happened with you! I hope all works out and you are right when you said you are in the best place for you and the baby.

mentally im preparing for a C-section but my doctor said the other day that we can decide at the time of delivery based on the situation what makes the most sense, im just wondering what the chances of a successful induction would be.

All I can say then is that my friend was 34 weeks when she had preeclampsia and they just went straight for a c section. They didn't even try to induce. I don't think they wanted her waiting it out and risking her BP going up even higher.
But she might have had a very fast and bad case.

Yes, it can. My friend had to be induced at 32 weeks and it took 5 days, but she did deliver the baby. They would not do a c for her. I think it really depends on why they're inducing.

Have you ever heard of Bishops Scores? Google it -- basically it gives you an idea of how successful an induction is likely to be given the state of your cervix and a few other things. I haven't been following you, but they must be very concerned for your health if they are considering an induction/c-section this early on. I hope everything turns out OK for you!

Re: can an induction be successful prior to 36w?

from a BTDT with preeclampsia...
Every day matters. For each day the baby develops inside you is like 2-3 days less in NICU (or somehting like that). When I was developing preeclampsia they got every last minute out of me. Therefore if they are going to take the baby that early, it will be an emergency, full blown preeclampsia. So IMO no time for induction because it could take days when you are that early (if not dilated).

yeah i assume if its anytime soon it will be a guaranteed c-section. the only reason im even thinking about induction is because my doctor didn't completely rule it out as a possibility. just wondering if its something even worth going through if its even offered to me.

how early did you deliver?

36w6d by c-section
(was going to be a c-section regardless because my first was a c-section, and it was twins not head down.)
Good luck!
