Canary Islands??
Anyone ever been?
Just looking to go to one island for 5-6 days as an anniversary trip with DH.
Any suggestions/favs would be greatly appreciated!!!

I have been to Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote - all on separate vacations. I went while I was living in Ireland and it was a 5 hr flight. The islands are okay, nothing special. They are hot in off-season so they are popular during the winter months but there wouldn't be a great appeal for me to visit again.
Honestly, I think that there are far nicer islands much closer to the US that would probably work out more reasonable and be a much shorter flight from here.

Avoid the Canaries or the Baleriacs like the plague in the summer. They are package holiday havens for binge drinking teenagers.
However, saying that I have a friend who loves Ibiza, but not the main town...
I agree with the AP, I would do mainland Europe or maybe The Dalmation Coast in Croatia!

I agree with PP - I did a spring break in Tenerife, eh.
ETA: what about Aruba? I've never been, but I hear all good things.

If DH was a normal person I would look in to it but he's a travel brat... it makes planning anything IMPOSSIBLE. It has to be someplace "different"

Have you been to Greece? I love the Greek Islands  You said a 5 day trip, going to Europe for 5 days is a bit of a rushed vacation.
Check out some other exclusive islands in the Caribbean: Young Island or Palm Island in the Grenadines or Jumby Bay off Antigua.

What about Capri? You can fly right to Naples via Rome or Paris and the ferry to the island itself is really easy. 5-6 days is the perfect amount of time there! We did 5 nights of our honeymoon on Capri (actually, Ana Capri) and it was a dream. We stayed at the Caesar Augusts and it was amazing!

I second Capri or Ischia would be a cheaper version of that. Also, my friend went to croatia last year and it looked absolutely amazing!

we were going to go there on our honeymoon (after visiting DH's family), but decided on balleric instead. (in the summer)
I agree to avoid Ibiza and mallorca, but we ADORED menorca! It was so quiet and peaceful. a few young children, but not many at all.
We stayed in Santo Tomas. We were going to stay at the farragut in Ciutadella, so maybe it's a bit more crazy there, but santo tomas was quiet!
