Talk to me about traditions
With the impending arrivals of your little one(s), which traditions would you like to carry on with them? Are you starting any new traditions?

Re: Talk to me about traditions
I started two traditions that didn't happen in my house (not even sure if we had any).
Every year I buy my son a Christmas ornament (he can take them when he gets his own tree) and a get him a book and write him a little note in it each year.
Will do the same for DD when she shows up.

Re: Talk to me about traditions
Not done in my home either but I decided to write DD a letter on each of her birthdays and save them for her. I cry every time I go back and read it...(she's only had one so far!)
Also, my Dad bought my mom a hummel of a baby when I was born. At my shower, my mom gave it to me and I plan to pass it on to DD

Re: Talk to me about traditions
I am NOT trying to start anything here, I'm just talking from experience! Ornaments are definitely something nice to have, but I hope you are only planning on getting 1 ornament a year. My MIL buys DH 4-5 Hallmark ornaments EVERY year and has now started buying me 2-3, even though I asked her for only 1. So needless to say DH has quite an extensive ornament collection for 30+ years of ornaments! And when we got married I wanted to be able to start collecting our own and I knew one day we would get ornaments from our children. We could probably fill at least 2 trees with the ornaments we have from both of our childhoods! Just some food for thought!
I like the idea of this thread. I haven't come up with any ideas for traditions to start when my LO comes. So hopefully I can get some good ideas from here!

this reminds me of that google chrome commerical where the dad writes emails and sends pictures for his daughter to one day read!

Re: Talk to me about traditions
I guess this is our tradition on Mother's Day. We plant a vegetable garden. We go to the nursery (as busy as it is) and plant them in the afternoon.

Re: Talk to me about traditions
In my house, we've always written a letter to Santa to leave with his milk and cookies, and we open one present on Christmas Eve.I've done both of these for DD (and Santa also writes back, thanking for the cookies and milk).
I intended to write DD a special letter each year, and I did it for the first year, but I haven't done it for a few years. I will this year though since it's the last year before we have another DC in the house.
We go pumpkin picking every year as a family, to the same farm....this is something my parents didn't really do with me...and I LOVE fall, so we make a big production of it.

Re: Talk to me about traditions
My mom is big on tradition and there are so many I plan to continue.
This is so random but if I have a girl I want to take her to high tea at the Plaza every year for her birthday
