Re: Pediatrician Question..
yup the baby can't leave the hospital unless he/she was checked out by a Pediatrician They will ask you for the Peds info and contact them when the baby is born I just gave them their card when we got to the hospital. The Ped comes everyday to check on the baby.

You do need one before the baby is born, but your Ped might not be the one to come to the hospital. I called around and some that I spoke to, dont go to LIJ where I'm delivering, so in the hospital my baby will see another Ped. Some aren't affiliated with the hospital you are delivering at.
But you need one before because you have to go to the Ped shortly after birth, so it will make it much easier to have this all set up before hand. I've been calling around now to see who takes our insurance, and getting some info.

Jackie, I'm delivering at LIJ also. I'm noticing that a lot of pediatricians in my area (Massapequa) are not affiliated with LIJ. Were you able to find any?

I live in Massapequa too, and I noticed that too. I guess because there are other hospitals closer to us. I'm going to pick a ped based on recommendation and close to my home, so if they arent affiliated with LIJ, it's not that big of a deal to me. We'll just use the hospital Ped. I think it should be fine, right?

The hospital Ped will check your baby. I don't think it's a big deal....not sure.

I think that should be fine. I'll definitely ask around...I'm seeing my high risk doctor this afternoon...I'll see what he says and I'll let you know!
