Any mommy's to be with Celiac?
I've been having some health issues that keep landing me in L&D. First they thought it was my gall bladder now they're thinking possibly Celiac Disease.
Just wondering if there's anyone else out there and if so, could share some good online references.
Thanks!

i do not have this, but my friend was just diagnosed with it. there are soo many options out there! stop and shop has a whole section dedicated to it.
betty crocker (i think) makes an amazing boxed chocolate chip and brownie recipe!! ive made it a few times when ive gone to their house.
lots of restaurants have gluten free menu, like pf changs, outback, lots of italian places too, just call ahead and ask
and you will be surprise about how much regular food is naturally gluten free yoplait yogurt is just one thing i noticed

Re: Any mommy's to be with Celiac?
sorry to crash...im not a mommy to be - but i do have celiac - so heres a list ive compiled before to help fellow GF people.
Please dont hesitate to FM me if you have any questions.
Some of my favorite GF brands are: Udi's - bread, bagels, muffins Allergy Free - chicken nuggets French Meadow Bakery - chocolate chip cookies are out of this world Glutino (crackers, pretzels) Snyders & Bachmann make gf pretzels that taste good but they are super hard.. Schaar (crackers, cookies are awesome!, pasta, bread) Mi Del (chocolate chip cookies - GF version of Famous Amos) Aleia's (bread crumbs and croutons) Conte's (raviolis & pierogies) Sam Mills (pasta) Shabtai (black&white cookies, rainbow cookies, these things called Ring Tings..taste like Ring Dings) Better Batter - all purpose flour Rice Chex - my every morning breakfast (makes awesome rice krispie treats too!)
Kraft is a reliable company. Their products will clearly label if there is gluten. Heinz has a whole list: http://www.heinz.com/health--wellness/focus-foods/dietary-preferences/gluten-free.aspx Betty Crocker/General Mills as well: glutenfreely.com (the cookie, cakes and brownie mixes are so good) Dont forget GF Bisquick! Kelloggs is supposedly working on a GF line of products but nothing is going to be released for atleast 6 months
Pacific - soups & broths (although there are some canned Progresso soups that are GF) My Dad's Cookies - huge line of different types of cookies.

Re: Any mommy's to be with Celiac?
I do!!!! The above poster did cover a lot of the great brands!!! There are actually a lot of other brands that i have also discovered.
My husband and I are actually opening our own "Strictly Gluten Free" store. We are hoping to be open by mid June. We have done so much research on Celiac and the different foods. We have traveled to California, Philadelphia, and Boston to find different great brands.
If you are interested about the food or the store definitely FM me and i would love to help. It definitely difficult in the beginning and wish i had a little more help...
Hope all goes well with you!!!!

Re: Any mommy's to be with Celiac?
its hard to diagnose but if your on a gluten free diet before you have the test done (which you can't have while PG because it requires going under) you will not test positive for it. I would start eating the diet now and then after LO comes go off it for 6 months and see what happens. if you have the signs again then get tested. there are not many dr's on LI that actually do the test correctly, but there is a good one in great neck and the another one in NYC. the one in NYC was featured on Dr oz but he doesn't take insurance.
A lot of the research for this takes place in CA
there is also a support group for celiac disease do a google search of long island. I had emailed them when my dr thought I had it. they were really helpful!
