I'm lurking but I had a private room and still made DH go home Chat Icon I really wanted some privacy, and some quiet time after DS. If I had a roommate, I don't know, I assume I would've had him leave -- those few days after birth are so personal, between the physical healing and emotional bonding, I would feel very self-conscious knowing there was a dude in the room, curtain or no curtain, kwim?
But everyone's tolerance is different for that stuff too.

THIS! I also had a private room and made dh go home.

such a private and emotional time - would definitely not want my roomates partner there 24/7

ITA! If you want your DH to stay over you should pay for a private room. Period, end of story.

I pay for private rooms regardless so it has nothing to do with me, but we're not talking about the Marriott here - it's a hospital. The roommate just gave birth also. IMO it's disrespectful to have a husband sleep in the room with another roomate.

I'm not even sure hospitals allow this since I know at Winthrop the husbands are asked to leave at 10pm.

ITA!!!

the whole time? I think I'd probably be annoyed... both times I had my children DH would visit for a few hours and then go home.

At Winthrop, they make the dads leave at 10. Even if they were allowed, I need my sleep and so did he.

You have years and years to bond with your child, it doesn't all happen in the 2 nights you are in the hospital.

I would feel really uncomfortable with a man in the room all right. I know that my husband wouldnt stay over even if he was allowed to if there was another girl in the room. I think he would feel uncomfortable, especially if her DH wasnt there.

I had 2 kids in 2 different hospitals and both had a 10 curfew for dads to leave. I don't think it is fair at all to expect your roomie to let your DH stay. I would not be comfy at all. With DD I actually became friends with roomie. We had kids born a day apart and we still talk. With DS I had a rough recovery (c-section) and had issues with a roomie and asked for a private room. I needed to rest and recover and she was on the phone all NIGHT.

I am all for being considerate for others but come on that is just plain rude to say your Roomie must suck it up and deal with it.

The afternoon before I was discharged I was given a roommate. Unfortunately her baby was sent to the NICU after delivery. Apparently parents of NICU patients are allowed to visit their children at any time in the NICU. So my roommates DH spent the night.

Although I understand their situation was critical and I am completely empathetic. It was wrong for him to stay. I had twin newborn girls whom I was BFing (talk about feeling uncomfortable), recovering from a c-section, as well as didn't need to hear him snoring during the 30 minute reprieve I had from BFing in the middle of the night.

This isn't true, I was in Winthrop and the DH of my roommate was allowed to spend the night because their DD was in the NICU.
