I'm back and a MAMA!
These past few days have been such a wonderful (and painful haze). I'm currently taking advantage of very eager and helpful grandparents and I wanted to share a quick birth story. I loved reading birth stories when I was expecting, so here it goes as abbreviated as I can make it. By Monday 4/18 I was having random contractions that weren't painful for a few days at my 39 week exam I was about 80% effaced and 2cm dilated. My doctor joked he'd see me later that week. Well the week passed as did the weekend and no baby. I was still pretty comfortable when I went to my 40 week appointment on 4.26. I was 4cm dilated and 100% effaced, my doctor said he'd get things going by Thursday if I didn't go on my own before then. He gave me a pretty rough internal in hopes to stir things up. After we walked around a ton and my contractions were about 7 minutes apart and mildly painful nothing that took my breath away, but uncomfortable. After dinner the contractions subsided and I got some normal sleep. In the morning we picked up my in-laws at LGA and headed out to lunch. I was having no contractions and super disappointed especially after my doctor called and set up the induction for Friday. Wednesday afternoon we walked around the mall and my contractions started again and became more painful. I had some bleeding that concerned me so we headed to Winthrop L&D at 3:30. I was having random contractions that were pretty high, but I wasn't in any pain. The PA was going to send us home but after her exam the contractions became very regular at 4 minutes apart and my Dr. decided to just speed things along with Pitocin. I was checked in and in a bed at 5:00, having just random uncomfortable contractions, nothing awful. I thought that people lied and child birth must be EASY! Famous last words. He started the Pitocin and broke my water at 6:15 and within 5 minutes my contractions were 2 minutes apart and PAINFUL! I had an epidural at 6:45 which was heaven sent. I didn't feel much pain from the contractions after that until I hit transition. My contractions started coming quick and lasting for quite awhile. I was feeling pressure, but not a ton of pain. When my Dr. checked me at 8:45 I was at a 10 and totally effaced. He wanted the baby's head to drop to a 0 station before we started pushing, but we were well on our way. 15 minutes later the pressure was intense and when he checked the baby's head was right where it needed to me. We started pushing at 9:45 and she was born at 10:01. I had two amazing nurses and my husband that really really told me when I was pushing well and when I wasn't. I honestly knew that if I pushed for over an hour I'd give up. I'm not a very strong person and I dislike things that are hard ( silly I know), but I give up when things are too painful. So I really feared I'd throw in the towel if I pushed for a long time. I basically told myself I had an hour and in one hour I'd have a baby so just give it my all. I pushed so hard each push and I think it totally saved me. I had an episiotomy which sort of stinks, but she was a good size baby 7lbs14oz. I was only in labor for 4 hours total and pushed for 35 minutes. It went so fast that I honestly couldn't believe it was over.
Post labor is much much harder than I anticipated. I didn't really think about it too much, I was too obsessed worrying about labor. I'm nursing and my boobs are so so sore, but we are both getting the hang of it.
Overall, it was an amazing and quick experience. Get the epidural if you are open to and PUSH your brains out. Seriously, the harder and better you push the quicker it is over.
I loved Winthrop labor and delivery nurses! They were awesome. The nurses on the maternal floor were ok, had one great one who really helped with pain and taking care of myself. They are very very pro keeping the baby all the time, which was good for me, since I wanted to room in, but it would be hard if we didn't have a private room and my husband didn't stay. The nurses in the nursery were fantastic! If you plan on breastfeeding definitely talk to Betty the lactation consultant, she was really helpful.
And the best part! We were team green and SHE'S a GIRL! We named her Reese Margaret. If you are team green make sure your husband/SO has the camera ready. I was so glad I got to see my family's reactions! Image Attachment(s):

Lol when they started me on pitocin I laughed because I too thought people lied about L&D being bad!! Thats so funny you say that. I was literally sitting there for 2 hours with hardly any pain! It's when they broke my water that the pain became unbearable!!!
Your dd is gorgeous!!! Congrats!!!!
