Re: Those planning to BF

had no set goal - i decided i would try for a month then i went two - at 4 months it became so easy that i just kept going - just take it as you feel and don't listen to anyone else

it is cheaper and easier once you get the hang of it but the first 6-8 weeks can be very difficult and trying on you so do what makes you happy

baby cannot get whole milk until a year.. so I'm hoping that I can produce enough milk to last atleast that long.

hoping for a year to 15 months because your breast cancer rate is cut in half if you go for 15 months

they used to give babies whole milk much earlier - this is why your mom may be thinking this way.

I stopped at 10 months with #1 and got him to the year on froozen BM.

I became a pumping machine for #2 and stopped at 6 months and got him to a year on a frozen supply

I would like to stop at 6 months or close, since I am running a marathon at 7 months pp and I don't want the girls weighing me down! Hopefully I will have a good frozen supply again.

Re: Those planning to BF

As a BTDT I would say set a short term goal and each time you make there just extend it. When you first start out a year will seem like forever. I EBF DS for 1 year it was the greatest accomplishment for me.
I plan to do the same for this baby maybe even longer if it happens that way.

I'd like to go up to a year, maybe a year and a half. At the nine month mark, I'd like it to be morning and evening and then just before bed. We'll see.

Ditto, but the breast oncologist (my mother's dr who I see for preventative check ups) told me that the studies show the rate is reduced at 12 months...so I was only planning on going to 12. Ill have to double check

Re: Those planning to BF

I say at least a year, my mom BFed us for longer than that. I am a teacher and would like to have them weaned before the next school year so that would actually be 11 months.

My goal is to go for 3 months. After 4.5 months i go back to work. So i think i will start formula and BF at 3 months & by month 4 completely on formula.

Re: Those planning to BF

I BF for 13 months...just do the best you can & take it day by day. It can be extremely difficulty & emotionally draining in the beginning. It does get easier over time and become second nature. The first 4 weeks were very hard for me. I am hoping that it is easier the 2nd time around. Good Luck!

Re: Those planning to BF

Hopefully a year. I haven't gotten much support about it either. I know it may not happen, but a girl can hope, right?

Re: Those planning to BF

Definitely a year -- if we go longer, great, but I don't anticipate it being as easy this time bc this is DC#2. I BFed DD for 21 months, but she was my only at the time and I had time to devote only to her!

Re: Those planning to BF

I plan to do the same with #2 that I did with DD. I took it day by day, hoped to make a year and we weaned together at 26 months.
