measuring ahead- question
i have a question. at my last apt, RE said that i am measuring 2 days ahead ( 8 weeks vs. 7w5 days based on IUI date). What does this mean? Should I move my EDD 2 days up and consider myself 8 weeks? I know 2 days is not a big thing, i am just trying to understand. thanks!

Re: measuring ahead- question
My OB won't change due dates, he says due dates are just an estimate. But I know others change them all the time. From what I've heard measuring off is common earlier. At what I thought was 12 weeks 5 days, I measured 13 weeks 1 day. He said that wasn't a big deal.

Re: measuring ahead- question
I'm measuring earlier by a few days and my Doctor said he will keep the EDD the same for now.

Re: measuring ahead- question
I am measuring over a week and a half ahead at 36 weeks...asked doctor if that meant I will likely have the baby sooner and he said measuring ahead doesn't indicate earlier arrival. I was so bummed!

Re: measuring ahead- question
The sonos I've had have shown me measuring about 4-7 days ahead than my EDD, but my OB bases the EDD on ovulation.

Re: measuring ahead- question
At 33 weeks I measured 4 weeks ahead
I asked doctor if that meant early arrival and she said nope. It won't change my due date, I just have a rather LARGE baby and may need a C-Section.
I go for another growth sono in two weeks so we will decide then.

Re: measuring ahead- question
I was told that the measurement at 8 weeks is the most accurate and that is what you should base your EDD on. I did not have regular cycles so there was no other way for me to know when the baby was due other than that first appointment measurement. If you already have an EDD, doctors usually won't change it unless the baby is measuring more than a week ahead around the 12-week mark. The don't usually change it at all after that.
Based on that very first measurement at 8 weeks, I got my EDD... and DD was born exactly 1 day early.
A 2-day difference can be a millimeter difference in where the tech clicked, though, at that point, so it's up to your doc and you when you want to call your EDD.

Re: measuring ahead- question
DS measured ahead from the beginning; 10 days ahead...they wouldn't change the due date.

Re: measuring ahead- question
Due dates are +/- 2 wks. They won't change your due date unless you are measuring more than that and even then they might not. I am currently 24 wks but measuring 26 wks but thats based on my stomach size not a sonogram. My Dr. thinks I'm carrying large bc I am petite.

Re: measuring ahead- question
I have been measuring 2 to 4 days ahead and my DD has not changed. I did IVF and pretty much know my conception date, but they are using the date calculated at my first sono, which is 2 days ahead.

Re: measuring ahead- question
First off, the sono's aren't 100% accurate. They're close, but doesn't really mean anything. THe OB's will go by your cycle and stick to that. I am also measuring a week ahead. I'm having a sched c and that doesn't mean they're going to sched a week early
Also, the tech said sometimes the baby could just have a growth spurt too. I was told a few days b4 I had DS he was going to be over 8lbs. He was 10 days late and 7lbs 5oz.

I am measuring 3 weeks ahead, but I think it just means that she is big.

Re: measuring ahead- question
I think they only change due dates if it's 7+ days off.
but DS#1 was measuring 2 weeks ahead at 31 weeks and he was over a week late!!! I'm glad that they didn't change the date - i would have been freaking out fro 3 weeks waiting for him!

Re: measuring ahead- question
I measured 2 days ahead at first, but my OB kept my EDD where it was. Now that I'm measuring over a week ahead ( ), my EDD is still the same as it ever was!
As PPs have said, most OBs don't bother changing the EDD, as it's just a guesstimate anyway!

Re: measuring ahead- question
I heard that anything up to a 3 or 4 day difference is normal. I'd leave the same DD.... unless for some reason you like the other one better.
