Lactation Consultant
Did anyone see a lactation consultant before they delivered? If so, is this person covered by insurance or do you have to private pay?
I'm hoping to BF and I think I'm going to take the class through the hospital, but I was curious if anyone saw someone privately.

Re: Lactation Consultant
I didn't see cuz the one on one interaction was weir for me and I was just too lazy to go to the support groups at the hospital! Also BF kinda went well all along knock on wood and every problem I had kinda resulted itself within a day or so but I always had my finger on the dial for one since my insurance BCBS does cover up to $500 for a consultant. However I would deff wait until delivery!! It's impossible to learn these things on a doll. It's such a personal and individual expeience that u just can't get any sort of general education on it and have it be enough! If the lass is free I would go if not I wouldn't waste money on it since the basics u can learn by renting a DVD and reading what to expect. I was very much prepared just by doing these things and everything else just came to me after and if I did need help then I would want them to watch me actually do it with my real live baby and tell me what's wrong.

Re: Lactation Consultant
i owuld not bother seeing one before - i would have a couple of recomendations for people to use but the lacation consultants in the hospital are very helpful and if you bring your pump with you they will tell you if the parts are the correct size
as stated above- a doll is very different then a baby - there is a lot you can learn by having some one work one on one with you and your baby - but you need the baby - this way you can see the differencee between sucking to get food, sucking to bring down milk and when the baby is using a pacifier
certain holds work well for some but not others - until you are bfing you won't know what works for you

Re: Lactation Consultant
My sister saw a lactation consultant with her first. I don't know if her insurance covered it but I remember that because she actually brought the baby with her, she had to pay extra. Make sure you ask about that if you see one.
