If you've had a drink/are going to have a drink...

At what point would you/did you feel comfortable doing so? (in terms of weeks). I'm 14.5w and curious.

No drama please thank you!

Re: If you've had a drink/are going to have a drink...

I don't remember how many weeks exactly, but was in the 6th month and I had half a bottle (ok, maybe a wee bit more) of beer with my St. Patrick's Day dinner. Other than that a few sips of DH's beer here and there. I am dying for a mimosa and may have one at my shower this Saturday. I'll be almost 34 weeks!

ETA: I had to be close to 28 weeks b/c it was just before the 3rd tri started and DH was harassing me (lovingly) about some study about middle age memory loss when Mom's drank in the 3rd tri. Chat Icon I said I'd be dead by the time the kid was middle age so I wouldn't be around for the blaming!!

For ME, I wasn't comfortable with it until the third trimester. I had ONE sip of beer on my birthday (31w3d), which I had always planned on but also ended up being the day I found out I was going on bedrest - so it was a BIG sip.

I have become a lot more lax with things as I reach the end of pregnancy. BUT I know it's totally fine to have a drink here or there - whatever you are comfortable with, you should do.

after my first tri, maybe 13 weeks? i also wasn't feeling it at all during the first trimester. I have a glass of wine, on average, about 1x-2x a month.

I think after 20 weeks I started taking sips here and there of DH's specialty beers.

I'm going to a wedding in Key West in 2 weeks and my dr said champagne toast at the reception is perfectly fine.

so, that's what I'm personally comfortable with.

I had a glass of red wine multiple times during my pregnancy, and yes in the 1st tri.

I had a mimosa at around 17 or 18 wks. I figured I was out of my first trimester, and something that was watered down with OJ wouldn't kill me.

I had another mimosa or two around 22 or 23 wks, and have had a few sips of beer in the 3rd trimester to try out DH's beverages.

I'm going to Nantucket with my girlfriends Memorial Day weekend, which I had planned before I got pregnant. I'll be about 20 weeks and definitely plan on having at least a glass of wine while sitting out by the pool/beach!Chat Icon

Re: If you've had a drink/are going to have a drink...

I had a glass of wine around 14 weeks and again at around 18 weeks (i remember bc it was Thanksgiving) but then I was put on meds and so didnt feel comfortable drinking until I was off of them at around 30 weeks. Ive prob had at lease 5-6 glasses of wine the whole time ive been pregnant - I even had one last night! My doc said its fine to have 1 or even 2 glasses a week!

Re: If you've had a drink/are going to have a drink...

I did with my dd once I was past 12 weeks, this pregnancy I have not craved even a sip of alcohol or I would have.. I had a glass at a wedding we went too but it made the baby toss and turn so much it was annoying!! But I dont see anything wrong with a glass here and there~

Re: If you've had a drink/are going to have a drink...

I think it was 14w? or 18w? but at one of my appts my OB told me if I wanted to have a glass of wine very sporadically that I could. I told her I was too nervous to and would likely abstain my entire pregnancy.

However, we are babymooning in Italy and I *MAY* have a miniscule sip of wine on occasion - we'll see. I'll be 24-25 weeks.

It was very hard not to have wine during seders this year but a little less difficult because my family drinks terrible wine Chat Icon

For me- I'm going to abstain until I am 34 weeks. At that point I'm going on vacation to TX for a wedding. I'll have the champagne toast. My whole thing is - why bother? Expect for the poster going to Italy--- If I had the opportunity to go to a wine tasting in Tusacany or something, than that's different.

Re: If you've had a drink/are going to have a drink...

When I spoke to my doctor about it...it was New Years Eve...she said it was ok to have a 'little' bit...but since at that stage in my pregnancy (I was about 20 weeks), and things were really in the 'swing' of being developed...that I had to be careful on how much I had.

I ended up not having anything...took me over 3 years to get pregnant with this one...I didn't want it to have any affect on the baby after waiting this long....but I must say at 36 weeks....I am dying for a glass of wine!!

Re: If you've had a drink/are going to have a drink...

I had about 1/4 of a glass of champagne last weekend at a wedding i was attending - i was 16wks

that's the first alcohol i've had since i found out i was pregnant.

to be honest, i probably won't have much more, maybe a glass of wine if we go out to dinner somewhere nice just because it goes with the meal.

But that's really because i'm a pretty big drinker normally, so if i can't have more than one.. then its really not worth it to me to even have just a little Chat Icon

Well for me, I know drinking is frowned upon but I didn't know it was REALLY frowned upon in the 1st trimester. I actually had drinks then but haven't had any since (no particular reason why...just haven't felt like it). So to answer your question, I've never felt uncomfortable.

Re: If you've had a drink/are going to have a drink...

After my 1st tri I had a bottle of beer every now and then. Never more then 1 a week, and I think in my whole preg I drank a 6pk of O'Brien, and had 1 6oz glass of wine.

I've had a few glasses of wine since the beginning. I'd say I have a glass every few weeks and I did have some first trimester. I go by the everything in moderation motto.

I haven't had any. 3 more weeks I will be 3 months. I may have a glass of wine after that but it's not that important to me..
