Re: Best way to prevent stretch marks
I'm pretty sure there's no real way to prevent them - it's usually genetic - either you're going to get them or you're not.
Good luck!!

yep!
you can try lotions. but ultimately, if you are going to get them.... you will get them regardless.
I use lotion. I so far am 30 weeks and I have 2 stretch marks. one you can't even really see and the other you can see.

Re: Best way to prevent stretch marks
Like everyone said I think if you're gonna get them it's just going to happen - but might as well use a lotion that smells good, right? I use the cocoa butter "tummy butter" - smells yummy! Even if it doens't work it smells good

Re: Best way to prevent stretch marks
That or have a mom, sister, aunt, etc, who didn't get them.
I only got a few and I attribute it to having been very fat previously in my life so I didn't stretch my skin much more than it had been stretched before. Not sure if you'd want to have gone that route, though.
They do fade over time. Think of them as war scars.

Re: Best way to prevent stretch marks
100% genetic, I have three older sisters whom all had two kids and zero stretch marks for them. I had twins and zero for me.

Re: Best way to prevent stretch marks
Good genetics. My mom never got them. I haven't gotten them with either pregnancy either...no creams, no tricks.

Re: Best way to prevent stretch marks
With DD#1 I got them really bad. My Dr said there is nothing I can do to prevent them. You are either going to get them, or your not.
ETA - My mom and sister never got them. I was the only unlucky one.

Re: Best way to prevent stretch marks
Agreed with everyone else. However, I am still living with the hope that I will be the exception to this rule (I'm sure I'm not alone on this). So far so good, but I still have 9 weeks to go. Here's what I use on a daily "ritual" basis:
Clarins Tonic Oil in the shower on my belly, thighs, butt and boobs.
Mama Mio Tummy Rub on my belly in the morning before I get dressed
Mama Mio Tummy Rub oil on my belly before I go to bed.
Mama Mio Boob Cream on my, well, boobs
Disclaimer: I have noticed what I think are the beginning of stretch marks under my boobs. AND - I would like to add that while I have managed to escape stretch marks thus far, cellulite found me at an early staged in my pregnancy . Let's just say I'm so glad I won't be needing to wear shorts during this pregnancy.

Re: Best way to prevent stretch marks
I agree that it's mostly genetics. I'm also trying not to be gluttonous, and therefore keeping my weight at a normal growth...hopefully that will help.

Re: Best way to prevent stretch marks
A lot of people don't get them until after they give birth, just to let you know! I had none and then as soon as my belly began to deflate, my skin looked very weird around my bellybutton. It never really went away, either!

Yes, I am the same way! I am early in my pregnancy so I cant speak for that, but in my teenage years I got a bunch on my sides and I was never even heavy.
My mom, and sister never got any even with their pregnancies!
I just use Vaseline Intensive Care Cocoa Butter bc skin thats less hydrated is more prone to not stretching as easily, just in general. Also, drink lots of water and keep the weight gain down as much as possible.
Oh and after you give birth is when a lot of people told me they got stretch marks rather then while pregnant too.
Uggh

Re: Best way to prevent stretch marks
I too, believe that it is mostly genetic. However, I used Palmers Stretch mark lotion everyday from the very beginning and I have zero stretch marks. My mom does not either. DD#2 was 9lbs 3oz(2 weeks early) and I am usually around 105-115lbs I was massive!!!! I have zero stretch marks but think that I am VERY lucky.
