Things you can't do while PG?
I was talking to my friend about my new car and saying how I love my heated car seat... She says you can't use heated seats cuz it will melt your mucous plug???
Another friend tells me that you can't have your feet massaged because it might induce early labor???
Any truth to this??? For now my heated seat is on low and I don't stop my pedicure lady from massaging my feet...

I've never heard the thing about the heated seat. I know that you're not supposed to take baths warmer than body temperature b/c it's not good to raise the temperature of your uterus/baby.
The foot massage thing I have heard, but I think it's only the area right at the back of your foot, between your heel and ankle bone.

LOL hope not - i look forward to driving so i can use the heated seats, it's the only thing that alleviates my back pain! not like i'm sitting on them bare-azzed.

Re: Things you can't do while PG?
I've never heard about seat warmers- I'm no doctor, but that sounds very far-fetched to me.
With foot massages, there is a spot on the foot/ankle that can trigger contractions, so most doctors/resources advise again getting your feet massaged unless it is by someone who is specifically trained in prenatal massage and knows what area to avoid.

I'm sorry, that sounds completely ridiculous to me! I can't imagine that is true.
With regard to the foot massage thing, some women try that at the end of their pregnancies to induce labor - as well as eating spicy foods, eggplant, and having sex - all of which are things that anyone can do throughout their pregnancy and NOT induce labor! I've done all of those things and I'm still pregnant!
If you have any questions, always ask your OB - people will always tell you things, some that are true and some that aren't. Trust your OB and his/her guidelines.

Re: Things you can't do while PG?
Never heard of the heated seats. I know about hot baths, but heated seats are fine. I can't even keep them on high b/c it gets too hot, but all winter I had them on. I did with DS as well and he's fine.
Also, I still get pedicures. They give me a little foot massage and it feels great. Did the same with DS and he was 2 weeks late and I had to go get induced. Still going for pedi's now and still pregnant. Hey, the weather is warming up! I have to keep my toes looking nice!

I have never heard about the heated seats and I wouldn't have survived the winter without mine.
There is truth to the foot massage thing and the need to go light on the massage.

Re: Things you can't do while PG?
the foot massage is true.
the heated seats I have heard before but not bc it will melt your mucus plug but bc you cant let your body temp get above a certain temp. When I was pregnant with my dd I had horrible lower back pain and every almost dr in the practice (I asked a few to se if I got the same answer) told me not to use a heating pad on my back bc it raises your body temp.

Guess this is an OB preference, because when I complained about back spasms I was having, my OB told me to go lay on a heating pad. Which I did!

Re: Things you can't do while PG?
Never heard the heated seats and I don't believe it. I actually had awful sciatica and some random shoulder pain during my second trimester and my doctor said I could use a heating pad on those areas for short periods of time. I've also taken hot baths and he suggested hot baths when I had the back pain too. No jacuzzi's or saunas, but I don't think a seat heater or a warm bath could really get your body temp up that high.
I avoided foot massages during my 1st trimester, but after that I have gotten them.
Honestly, I'm still pregnant (and apparently this child is quite comfy at 39 weeks) and the baby seems to be healthy so far seat heater and baths and all.

Re: Things you can't do while PG?
I asked my OBGYN about pedicures. He said it is absolutely fine to have a foot rub. Don't do a deep tissue or reflexology rub.
The heated seats is due to the fact about raising your body temperature. If you aren't roasting yourself then it should be fine.

Re: Things you can't do while PG?
That is totally ridiculous.
I slept with a heating pad on my back for the last 3 mos, directly on my skin for my back pain. You'd 'overheat' at the gym, or in a hot tub, not with a heated seat or heating pad.

Re: Things you can't do while PG?
I use my seat warmer every day and I def don't see a problem with it. My doctor also told me I can use a heating pad on my back which I think is the equivalent of a seat warmer.

"Melt your mucus plug?" I needed a good laugh this morning! That is ridiculous - it isn't made of wax!
Another example of how even well intentioned people can give the craziest advice.
